The engine, powering the F25, will be sourced from the Brazilian-spec Fazer 250 that develops 20.7Ps of power and 20.4Nm of peak torque

India Yamaha has sent out a ‘Block your Date’ invite for a press conference which will be held on January 24. The event is undoubtedly the launch of a new 250cc entry-level performance naked offering from Yamaha. Rumoured to be called the FZ25, the motorcycle is expected to ‘unveil a new chapter’ for Yamaha.

The Japanese manufacturer has been pretty much tight-lipped about the bike and has refrained from giving out any information about the bike. Even the few contacted dealers were not aware of the details or specifications of the motorcycle. However, a test mule of the motorcycle was recently spotted on the road which provided with some information on the upcoming motorcycle.

In terms of looks, the spotted motorcycle confirmed the FZ25 to carry the stance of a streetbike. With design inspirations adopted from the FZ-S and the M-Slaz sold in the South-Asian market, the FZ25 features an edgy and compact bikini fairing that sits between the forks. The headlight unit features an LED setup, accompanied by Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs). It gets muscular tank extensions that give the bike an aggressive stance which narrows down to a petite tail section. The design of the bike is completed by a split seat and a stubby exhaust system.

The bike features a single-cylinder mill that is almost identical to the engine of the Fazer 250 sold in the Brazilian market. The engine is a 249cc, oil-cooled, fuel-injected motor that churns out 20.7PS of max power and 20.4Nm of peak torque. The 5-speed gearbox does the duty of transmitting power to the rear wheel. In terms of cycle parts, the bike will come equipped with telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock for the rear. The test bike featured disc brakes on both ends, while ABS equipment was not visible near the braking components. Expect Yamaha to have a separate ABS version of the bike during the launch.

Being a 250cc offering, expect Yamaha to launch the FZ25 at a sticker price between Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 1.8 lakh ex-showroom. On the competition front, the FZ25 will lock horns with the KTM 200 Duke, Benelli TNT 250, Mahindra Mojo and the recently launched Bajaj Dominar 400.
