An Indonesian graphic designer has given us a feel of what the XSR250 or XSR300 could look like with these rendered images. Take a look

  • The rendered images of the Yamaha XSR250 / XSR300 are based on the XSR155.
  • If Yamaha decides to make these motorcycles, they are likely to use the R25 or R3’s engine.
  • They could give Yamaha the opportunity to compete against Royal Enfield in the small-capacity retro segment.

Yamaha made waves across the world with the introduction of the tastefully retro-modern XSR155 based on the R15 V3. Enthusiasts couldn’t help but wonder if Yamaha would give the same retro treatment to the R15’s elder siblings: the R25 and R3. Now, Indonesian graphic designer Julak Sendie Design has made beautiful renderings of the XSR250 and XSR300.

The new Yamaha R25 and the Yamaha R3 have the same design language and share the same engine platform, albeit with different engine capacities. Consequently, the renderer has also replicated the same logic into the XSR250 and the XSR300. Both bikes have been rendered on a diamond frame like their faired siblings. On the other hand, the Yamaha XSR155 and the R15 V3 are built on a deltabox frame.

The fuel tank looks a bit more muscular than the XSR155. For a more premium appeal, the inverted front fork gets a gold finish. The rear end uses a linked monoshock. Like its faired siblings, the rendered bikes also get the same alloy wheel design. While the stubby exhaust looks meaty, we wish it could’ve been made a little more upswept.

The two motorcycles are likely to be powered by the same engines as their faired iterations. In the R25, the 250cc parallel twin motor churns out 36PS and 23.6Nm. On the other hand, the 321cc parallel twin motor in the R3 generates 42PS and 29.6Nm. Both bikes get a 6-speed transmission.

Currently, Royal Enfield’s motorcycles have been dominating the sub-500cc retro segment. Sure, there are other retro-themed bikes like the Jawa and the Honda CB300R, but their reach is quite low. Hence, we feel Yamaha should consider launching the XSR250 as well as the XSR300 as they will offer the brand a strong base in the lucrative small-capacity retro segment. These bikes are also more practical than their sporty faired cousins, and that will also play a big role in everyday-usability factor. This will also help attract a wider range of riders. In a related development, Yamaha is also considering launching the XSR155, as well as the updated R3 in India. You can read more details about them here.
