A new engine and updated styling are the highlights of the new model

Hot on the heels of the 2021 NMax 125, the Euro 5-compliant D’elight 125 has also made its global debut. The scooter now flaunts a refreshed design and a new engine, shared with its maxi-scooter sibling.

Interestingly, the scooter’s fascia bears an uncanny resemblance to the Yamaha Fascino 125 FI. The D’elight now features chrome garnish around the headlight and the front apron, just like the Fascino. Yamaha’s updated design has been termed ‘New Unisex Body Design’ to make it more appealing to urban men, similar to what Hero MotoCorp tried achieving with the Pleasure Plus. The D’elight now also features a new semi-digital LCD with a large analogue speedometer and a digital display with the tell-tale information.

Under the skin, a new 125cc single-cylinder engine produces 8.4PS at 7,000rpm and 9.8Nm at 5,000rpm. While the performance figures may not seem interesting, the scooter has a huge advantage when it comes to weight. At 101kg, it is the lightest scooter in the segment, claims Yamaha.

For 2021, the D’elight also gets a 12-inch front wheel which would improve handling. The underseat storage of the scooter is big enough to gobble up a full-face helmet and to achieve this, Yamaha has moved the fuel tank to the front of the scooter. Another update is the new start-stop system, which we’ve also seen on Yamaha’s BS6 scooters here.

While the Yamaha D’elight is unlikely to come here, the Fascino 125 FI is worth a look if the retro-ish design catches your fancy.
