The 2017 version of the Yamaha MT-09 receives a Euro 4-compliant engine and a host of new upgrades

Yamaha Motor Company had introduced the MT-09 in 2013, a middleweight offering that has become one of the most popular bikes by the brand. Being a very lucrative segment, other rival manufacturers have upped the ante on the competition front, following which Yamaha has introduced the 2017 edition of the MT-09. The update comes with a fresh list of cosmetic upgrades and features to ensure the bike remains up to date amongst its rivals.

The first noticeable update on the 2017 MT-09 is the MT-10-inspired headlight assembly. While the predecessor utilises a single unit the new one gets a split-type arrangement with LED daytime running lights below it. Each pod of the headlight gets two LED bulbs and the whole assembly is wide enough to cover the thick forks, unlike in the previous model. The front indicators are now mounted beside the radiator while the all-digital instrument console has been carried forward from the current model.

Moving to the rear, Yamaha has shortened the tail section of the updated bike and incorporated a three-dimensional LED tail lamp. Other updates include a raised saddle by 5mm, which Yamaha claims to offer better support for the rider. The previous generation missed out on adjustable front USD which are now on offer with the 2017 edition. Compression damping can be adjusted on the left fork while rebound can be tweaked on the right.

The 2017 edition of the MT-09 now gets a Euro 4-compliant engine while the power output of the motorcycle remains unchanged. However, the 2017 edition receives a slipper clutch and Yamaha’s Quick Shift System (QSS) as a standard fitment. Expect the 2017 edition of the Yamaha MT-09 to reach Indian shores by mid-2017. On the price front, being a CBU offering, the updated MT-09 is likely to sport a marginally higher sticker price.
