Does the extensive list of updates make the new RR310 a more desirable motorcycle?

TVS has updated the Apache RR310 to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. But it didn’t just tweak it and said, ‘there you have it. That’s the new RR310 for you.’ Instead, the bike maker went back to the drawing board and made sure that the BS6-compliant RR310 is better than the older model in every possible sense. So is it really worth Rs 12,000 more than the BS4 model?

Pros

Engine is a bit more refined than before:

The only caveat with the BS4 RR310 was refinement. You could feel the vibrations on the footpegs and on the handlebar once you reached around 5500rpm. But TVS was quick on its feet to tackle this situation and gave the motorcycle minor updates. However, with the BS6-compliant motor, TVS has nailed it. The engine is more refined than before and if this characteristic was found in the first-gen RR310, then it would have been great.

Feature rich

The BS6-compliant RR310 is equipped with many segment-first features. It gets a 5-inch TFT display, four rider modes (Urban, Rain, Sport and Track), ride-by-wire and even Bluetooth connectivity. And at Rs 2.4 lakh (ex-showroom), TVS is offering way more features than any other motorcycle in its segment.

Gripper tyres than before:

TVS has replaced the old Michelin Pilot Sport tyres with the new Michelin Road 5 rubber. The new tyres are W-rated and are said to offer better grip in wet conditions. In fact, on the track, the new set of rubber offered a bit more grip compared to the older tyres.

Cons:

Weight has gone up a bit:

BS6-compliant motorcycles gain a bit of weight as the engine and the exhaust system are tweaked in order to emit fewer emissions. The BS6-compliant RR310 tips the scale at 174kg, which is around 4.5kg more than the BS4 model.

Pillion comfort hasn’t been improved:

Apart from the new paint option, TVS hasn’t made any other cosmetic changes. However, we were expecting the Hosur-based bike maker to add a bit more padding to the pillion seat. We know this is a minor issue, but this is just us nit-picking because the BS6 RR310 is damn good on the track! We are just waiting for TVS to give us the bike for a proper road test.

Should you buy one?

Absolutely. The Apache RR310 was already a fantastic bike and the only thing that was missing was refinement. But with the BS6 RR310, TVS has addressed that issue. In fact, for an additional sum of Rs 12,000, you now get segment-first features and a much better motorcycle. More so when you consider that its closest rival, the RC 390, is Rs 8,000 more and hardly gets any features! In our point of view, the TVS Apache RR310 BS6 is now a more VFM motorcycle than it was before.
