Have a look at one of the world’s most gorgeous motorcycles

After displaying the Katana in India at the 2020 Auto Expo, Suzuki finally teased its launch yesterday. So while Suzuki preps the bike’s launch, we bring to you, details of the motorcycle through this image gallery:

Much like its 1981’s model, the Katana’s name as well as its distinctive styling has been inspired by the iconic Japanese sword. Its square headlamp, nose fairing and short black windscreen complete the look. The bike gets full LED lighting for its headlamp and a split LED-tail lamp setup.

While the bike is reminiscent of the older one, its sharp lines and edgy bodywork boost its modern appeal. In order to keep it in tune with the original bike, Suzuki has adorned the Katana with the same red lettering and logo on the 12-litre fuel tank.

The Suzuki Katana is powered by a long-stroke version of the 2005-2008 GSX-R1000-derived 999cc inline-four powerplant. It produces 152PSand 106Nm: 2PS more but 2Nm less than its predecessor. The engine works alongside a 6-speed transmission with a slipper clutch.

For 2022, electronic aids include a traction control system and a standard dual-channel ABS. Other updates on the bike include a ride-by-wire throttle (with three riding modes) and a bi-directional quickshifter. Suzuki has also equipped the bike with an LCD instrument cluster.

Underpinnings on the streetfighter include an inverted fork and a link type suspension at the rear. The bike gets twin discs at both ends handling braking duties. Its sporty credentials are backed by 17-inchers at both ends, with a 120-section rubber at the front and a massive 190-section tyre at the rear. That said, its 215kg kerb weight coupled with the low 140mm ground clearance might be a bit of a problem on our roads.

Suzuki could launch the Katana sometime next month and we expect it to carry a price tag of around Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom). Once here, it’ll go up against the likes of the BMW S1000R.
