Linked Monoshock: Motorcycle Terms Explained

We see linked monoshocks on many sportbikes, but how does it differ from a conventional monoshock

A linked monoshock is a type of rear suspension used in modern-day sports bikes and is an evolved form of a conventional monoshock. Compared to standard monoshock systems, in which the entire assembly of monoshock is mounted directly on the swingarm or frame of the motorcycle, the linked monoshock setup uses an extended link for its mount.

In a linked monoshock system, the extended link emerges from the main frame of the motorcycle, which is placed alongside or below the swingarm, on which the shock absorber is mounted. This entire assembly of linked monoshock runs parallel to the swingarm.

The primary advantage of a linked monoshock is that it can be mounted almost vertically, making it more effective in the absorption of bumps while also keeping the motorcycle stable. Also, because of the additional leverage the linkage provides, the shock absorber can run with a stiffer spring, making it preferable for sport bikes that need stiffer suspension setups for better grip and even off-road bikes, which will encounter a lot of bumps while riding, where softer springs will bottom out easily.

In essence, it offers a more advanced damping system when compared to other types of rear suspension. This feature is frequently observed in sport bikes, including more budget-friendly options like the Yamaha R15.

r15 V4 Review

The r15 v4 has the old punch while handling the BS6 engine with good aerodynamics and aggressive seating position. Its very easy to reach 140+ with default setting while it was not made for the long drive push, we can try the limits where I've driven around 25,000km in the same bike as well. I love it as my soul.Read More

Yamaha r15 v4 is a great fully faired sports bike

The reason i chose this bike was quite a story in short, i was a student who was about get in college and i needed a bike to travel a quite moderate distance. When i was searching for a bike which is highly affordable as well as stylish on the looks and has great features too! Then i came across this masterpiece which was totally worth it. The ride is great so far. But there are few factors to look for if a beginner is going to buy this bike, as a fully fair bike the biggest issue would be comfort on long ride eg. Posture issue because of the aggressive stance fully fair bikes usually have. But for the short to moderate distance its great soo far. And handling also good, and mileage is better than expected. One more thing to consider, if someone lives in a crowded city like area they can this as this bike isn't a street fighter or naked body bike for city specific conditions. I would absolutely recommend this bike to even a beginner who want to get a thrilling ride experience of a fully fair bike at price rang as low as this, mileage also great compared to other similar bikes, great handling too, maintenance is also fairly rated i would say, totally worth it!
