Kawasaki Ninja Versys 650 might be launched in India this year

Kawasaki has imported its Versys 650 in India for the homologation process. It hints that the Japanese auto major is planning to launch its mid-weight performance, adventure motorcycle in India, and we can expect its launch by the end of 2015. The company has already launched its elder sibling- Versys 100 in the month of January this year.

The 2015 Kawasaki Versys is an advanced adventure tourer with a very sharp and sporty styling. Instead of spoke wheels, the bike runs on strong 17” alloy wheels, specially designed for the riding off as well as on road. Ergonomics of the bike have been designed for a comfortable upright riding posture, reducing rider fatigue. To reduce the vibrations, rigid engine mounts have been replaced with rubber mounts in the new model. The bike has a large 21-litre fuel tank to reduce the load of refueling during long tours. There is an adjustable fly-screen provided at the front to ensure better wind protection and its wide handlebar makes handling easier.

Propelling the new Kawasaki Versys 650 is the same 649cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine, which also powers the Ninja 650, ER-6n and Vulcan S. However, the motor has been re-tuned to match the performance requirements of a tourer. Coupled to a Keihin fuel injection system, the 8-valve, DOHC mill churns out 68bhp of maximum power at 8,500rpm and a peak torque of 64Nm at 7,000rpm. The advanced motor also gets Dual Throttle Valves and Economical Riding Indicator to make out better mileage figures.

The 2015 Kawasaki Versys 650 comes with 41mm inverted forks at the front, capable for pre-load and rebound damping adjustments, while the rear gets Offset laydown single-shock with remote spring pre-load adjustability. For superb control, a high performance braking system have been equipped to the motorcycle including dual 300mm petal disc brakes at the front and a 250mm petal disc brake at the rear. This advance braking system is further assisted by Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), making emergency braking safer.

Apart from the standard equipment, the latest version of Kawasaki Versys 650 has a wide range of optional accessories like clean-mount pannier system, 47-litre top case, LED fog lamps and many more. Looking at the price of the existing Kawasaki Versys 1000, priced at Rs. 12.9 lacs (ex-showroom, Pune), the upcoming Versys 650 can expected to be priced around Rs. 7-7.5 lacs.
