Yamaha’s new teaser video previews a sportier Ray ZR with new bodywork

Yamaha Ray ZR Street Rally scooter

Yamaha is all set to introduce a new 110cc scooter. Called the Ray ZR Rally Edition, this scooter is aimed towards buyers looking at something sportier than the Yamaha Ray ZR. While Yamaha has been tight-lipped about the scooter, it has released two teaser videos on its official youtube channel. The scooter featured in the videos bears a striking resemblance to the Ray ZR Street Rally edition concept that debuted at the 2018 Auto Expo. The one in the video though misses out on the striking graphics, gold coloured wheels, dual-tone seats and other accessories seen on the concept.

The scooter gets a new front bodywork, especially the top handlebar cowl. It gets air ducts and winglets on the sides. We expect the scooter to get new mirrors and a fully digital instrument cluster from the concept bike. Rest of the bodywork has been carried over from the Ray ZR.
We expect the Ray ZR Street Rally edition to come with the same underpinnings as the Ray ZR, like the 113cc single-cylinder motor that develops 7.2PS and 8.1Nm of torque. The suspension setup would include telescopic forks up front with a single hydraulic shock absorber at the back.

That's disappointing as the concept scooter featured a gas-charged shock absorber that would have improved the ride and handling characteristics. Braking would be via drum brakes on both 10-inch wheels with a front disc brake as an option. We do not expect the bike to get combined braking system as only two-wheelers displacing 125cc or more require CBS as mandated by the government.

While Yamaha has not revealed a launch date, we expect the scooter to be launched later this month. Expect to pay a small premium over the disc brake-equipped Ray ZR that is priced at Rs 55,898 (ex-showroom Delhi).
