Honda has entered an all new segment with the launch of NAVi at the 2016 Auto Expo. With a moto-scooter like body design and a price tag of just Rs. 39,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi), it is quite clear that NAVi is one of a kind two-wheeler in the Indian market. As far as its body type and price range is concerned, NAVi is the only offering in this segment. The comparison of NAVi with other 110cc scooters may sound bizarre but, having an engine of the same capacity will result in this two-wheeler ultimately eating in the sales of these 110cc scooters. Here is how the moto-scooter is different from the other 110cc offerings like Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter and Hero MotoCorp Maestro Edge.
Equipped with a 109.19cc, 4-stroke, single cylinder engine with Honda Eco Technology (HET), NAVi is launched in three variants viz. Street, Adventure & Off-Road. The mill comes mated to a V-matic (automatic) gearbox and generates a maximum power of 7.83bhp at 7,000rpm with a peak torque of 8.96Nm at 5,500rpm. NAVi is capable of reaching a top speed of 81kmph. The bike-scooter crossover has a radical design and looks similar to Honda Grom, an ongoing model presently on sale in the international market. Made for the urban youth, Honda’s new offering will feel light on the pocket but still, we doubt that NAVi will be able to replace the conventional gearless scooters.
As compared to other scooters, NAVi can be quite handy for city riding because of its small size. Its simple and compact designing can prove to be an asset as it can be modified the way one wants. Coming to the negatives, it has a fuel tank capacity of just 3.8 litres, which is less than all other 110cc two-wheelers. Being a moto-scooter, it will largely attract young boys, unlike other vehicles which are made for the entire family. One other negative aspect about NAVi is that it cannot store enough luggage on it due to lack of space, courtesy of its compact size.
Conclusion: Launched at a mouth-watering price, NAVi might become successful in attracting youth and making an all-new segment in the country. However, the moto-scooter will not affect the sales of other 110cc scooters much as they are focused on a different audience altogether. More can be told about NAVi after we get our hands on one. And the speed of the scooter is nearly touch 80 so it is as a good thing. Overall i will give 10 out of 10 for mileage and maintenance cost.
