The all-new Ducati Desmo450 MX has officially been launched in India at a price tag of Rs 17,23,600 (ex-showroom, Delhi). With this motorcycle, Ducati has stepped into the hardcore motocross segment in the country, bringing its racing expertise and advanced engineering to a class of bikes built purely for the dirt.
What Makes The Desmo450 MX Special?
The biggest highlight of the Desmo450 MX is its engine. The bike is powered by a 449.6cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that uses a desmodromic valve actuation system, a technology usually found in Ducati superbikes and MotoGP machines.

This engine produces 63.5PS at 9,400rpm and 53.5Nm at 7,500rpm, making it one of the most powerful engines in the 450cc motocross category. The motor is paired with a 5-speed gearbox and is designed to deliver strong mid-range performance along with an impressive top-end, something that serious motocross riders demand on track.
Another major advantage of the Desmo450 MX is its lightweight construction. The bike uses an aluminium perimeter frame, which helps keep the wet weight (without fuel) at just 104.8kg! For reference, the Hero Splendor has a kerb weight of 112kg.
High-End Hardware And Electronics
Ducati has equipped the Desmo450 MX with top-tier suspension components from Showa. It gets a fully adjustable inverted front and a monoshock, allowing riders to tune the suspension depending on track conditions.

Braking duties are handled by Brembo hardware, while the bike rides on a typical motocross setup of 21-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels wrapped in knobby Pirelli off-road tyres.
Interestingly, the Desmo450 MX also comes with a range of electronics that are rarely seen on motocross motorcycles. These include Ducati Traction Control tuned specifically for off-road riding, launch control, engine brake control and multiple riding modes that help riders optimise performance depending on the terrain.
Rivals In India
In the Indian market, the Ducati Desmo450 MX goes up against several established motocross machines such as the KTM 450 SX-F (priced at Rs 10,25,100) and the Kawasaki KX450 (priced at Rs 9,92,000). Both prices are ex-showroom Delhi.

BikeDekho Says
At Rs 17,23,600 (ex-showroom), you could easily get a superbike like the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R or even multiple motorcycles for the same money, but this is far from being a mass-market motorcycle.
The Ducati Desmo450 MX is aimed at a very niche group of riders: professional racers or serious off-road enthusiasts who want the absolute crème-de-la-crème of dirt bikes. For those riders, Ducati offers exclusivity, cutting-edge engineering and serious track performance, making the Desmo450 MX less about practicality and more about owning one of the most advanced motocross machines available in the world.
