Yamaha R15 V4: Variants Explained

Confused choosing between R15 V4 with/ without quickshifter or R15 M? We clear things out

Yamaha, with its R15 lineup, offers two main variants: the standard R15 V4 and the premium R15M with starting prices of Rs 1,73,050 and Rs 1,88,130 (ex-showroom, Delhi), respectively. If you’ve set your sights on the R15 but are confused as to which variant to buy, here’s what each has to offer:

The Standard Yamaha R15 V4

The Yamaha R15 V4 comes in different colour options with different price ranges:

Colours

Price (ex-showroom, Delhi)

METALLIC BLACK

1 73 050

MATTE PEARL WHITE

1 77 700

RACING BLUE

1 77 700

INTENSITY WHITE with Quickshifter

1 77 700

INTENSITY WHITE without Quickshifter

1 73 050

DARK KNIGHT

1 73 950

METALLIC RED

1 73 050

Even though this is the base variant, it is still fairly well equipped. It is powered by a 155cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine featuring Yamaha’s Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology. This system enhances torque delivery at lower RPMs without sacrificing top-end power, producing a healthy 18.4PS at 10,000rpm and 14.2Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. Key equipment includes:

  • Gold-finished (in select colour variants) 37mm upside-down (USD) fork for superior handling dynamics.

  • Dual-channel ABS for safe braking, paired with a 282mm front and 220mm rear disc.

  • An Assist & Slipper clutch, which lightens the clutch pull and prevents rear-wheel hop during aggressive downshifts.

  •  Traction control to manage rear-wheel slip.

  • An LCD instrument console with basic connectivity for call/SMS alerts. It also gets a mileage indicator, gear position indicator, shift light, apart from other details such as speed, fuel level, revs, among others. There are two display modes: Street and Track as well.

One important point of distinction within the standard V4 range is the quickshifter. While available, it is not fitted as standard on all colour options. It only comes with the Intensity White colour variant. This allows for clutchless upshifts only.

The Premium Yamaha R15M

Mechanically, the R15M is identical to its standard sibling. It uses the same 155cc VVA engine, the same frame, the same suspension, and the same braking hardware. The premium paid is for a package of aesthetic enhancements and a better console.

The key additions on the R15M are:

  • A quickshifter (upshifts only) fitted as standard on every unit.

  • A TFT connected console with turn-by-turn navigation, apart from other information and features on the base variant. It also allows the rider to access features such as last parked location, maintenance recommendations, fuel consumption tracker, among others.

  • Carbon fibre-style pattern highlights on the bodywork for a sportier appeal.

  • A signature golden front brake caliper that immediately identifies it as the M variant.

  • A dedicated R15M seat cover and a 3D R15M emblem on the fuel tank.

BikeDekho's Verdict: Which Variant To Buy?

Buying the R15M makes sense only if you’re keen on having fancier colours, and also really want the TFT console. Those who prioritise performance over everything else can go ahead with the quickshifter-equipped version of the regular variant and save money. After all, if you really want to use navigation, you can simply use the smartphone holder and USB charging port offered as part of the official accessories list.

Neat condition bike with awesome road presence

This bike is very good while daily riding is the main factor as the mileage is very good like 43 kmpl in city traffic and the maintenance cost is very low if you ride the bike properly. Also the road presence particularly of this edition is great. If you wish to look good while getting an optimum performance then you can definitely go for it. In my case this bike is in neat condition without any damages or missing parts. All the services done on time and so the warranty is valid.Read More

I had a brother who likes riding this old r15 and I was small and didn't knew any super bikes at all, and this was my first super bike which had all sharpnes at edges, the colour, the speed, it had some personality. Its been amazing bike so far, smooth, light weight. Its top speed is pretty good. It gives good mileage. It is very nice for long rides. Performance of the bike is so good. Suspensions works very well on road. Yes, for sure but take my opinion and explore different bike, It may have something that this bike wouldn't have that charm but you can go for it, if you want sporty look and a good racing bike.
