The little details that you need to know about TVS’ first BS6 scooter

With the recent launches, TVS joins the list of Indian manufacturers to have a BS6-compliant product on sale. Aside from the Apache twins, TVS has launched the BS6 Jupiter Classic, its first BS6 scooter. Here are five things you need to know about the new Jupiter.

TVS’ First Fuel Injected Scooter

In order to comply with BS6 emission norms, TVS had to kit the 110cc motor with fuel injection, making it the brand’s first fuel injected scooter. TVS has not divulged the output figures of the new engine, instead just claiming that it is 15 percent more fuel efficient than the BS4 model.

New Features

The TVS Jupiter’s Classic trim gets a traditional look, two-tone seat and a back rest. For the BS6 model, TVS is offering a USB charger, a mobile cubbyhole, a tinted visor (instead of a clear one) and a brand new blue colour. This trim does not get the SmartXonnect feature like the Grande.

No Disc Brake Now

Sadly, in the interest of cutting down costs, the variant no longer gets a front disc option and has to make do with a drum unit.

Price Hike

At Rs 67,911 (ex-showroom Delhi), the BS6 Jupiter Classic cost Rs 7921 more than its corresponding BS4 trim. TVS has had to offset the cost of the addition of fuel injection by skimping on a front disc brake but the BS6 Jupiter still feels a bit pricey.

Competition

TVS has priced the BS6 Jupiter Classic Rs 421 more than the only other BS6 scooter in the country so far, the Activa 125 BS6. Not only does the Activa have a larger motor, it boasts of more features as well. We expect TVS to launch the base versions of the BS6 Jupiter with lower price tags soon enough. In the 110cc scooter segment, the top-of-the-line Honda Activa 5G Limited Edition costs Rs 57,735, making the BS6 Jupiter nearly Rs 10,000 dearer than India’s most loved scooter.
