Should you shell out Rs 12,000 more for the BS6 RR310? We find out

TVS has finally launched the BS6 Apache RR310 in India at Rs 2.40 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price, the BS6 variant is around Rs 12,000 more expensive than the BS4 model, which begs the question, should you spend that extra cash or get the BS4 model instead? We help you decide.

Features:

TVS engineers went back to the drawing board and thought of some really cool features to add to the BS6 RR310. The result? The 2020 iteration now comes with a 5-inch TFT display, Bluetooth connectivity, four rider modes: Rain, Urban, Sport and Track, ride by wire, and Glide Through Technology Plus. So, if you’d like to be up to date with the latest features, the BS6 model is the one for you.

Engine and performance:

Although TVS has tweaked the motor to make it BS6-compliant, the power and torque figures remain the same as before (34PS and 27.3Nm). Even the 0-60kmph time of 2.93 seconds is similar to the previous model. But since the motor is now BS6-compliant, we can expect it to be a bit smoother and refined than before.

Underpinnings:

Braking hardware between the BS4 model and the BS6-compliant variant is the same. But the Hosur-based bike maker claims it has slightly tweaked the suspension on both ends. The other major change between both models is the tyre. It now comes with Michelin Road 5 tyres, instead of Michelin Pilot Street seen on the older model. You’ll have to wait for our first ride review to find out whether these updates make a difference or not.

Design:

There’s not much of a difference here. Apart from a new paint scheme and a slightly redesigned windscreen, both motorcycles look exactly the same.

Which one should you buy?

Well, it’s a no brainer. For the extra Rs 12,000, you get a tonne of features including ride by wire, a TFT display and rider modes. Most importantly, you get a future-proof motor. If we were planning to buy the RR310, we would definitely go for the BS6 model. The only conundrum we would face would be in picking a colour.
