More expensive but somehow very basic, can the NTorq 125 XT justify the premium?

  • New TFT and LCD instrument console combo.
  • Redesigned and lighter alloy wheels
  • Switch operated active voice command features

For 2022, TVS Motor Company adds another variant to the uber popular NTorq 125 family. Launched at Rs 1,02,823 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the NTorq XT commands a premium of Rs 13,612 over the top-spec RaceXP edition. The NTorq XT retains the aggressive styling and sporty boneline as before; except, TVS has ensured that this iteration features a few new changes that help the XT distinguish itself better.

The NTorq 125 is easily one of the most feature-rich, sporty scooters on sale in India today. You can buy one starting at Rs 77,106 (ex-showroom Delhi) – spend Rs 12,000 more, you can get the top-spec Race XP variant loaded with all the bells and whistles and ride modes too. Hard to top that you’d reckon, but TVS has managed to load the XT with yet another round segment firsts with a hybrid, TFT cum LCD instrument console, voice command, TVS’ IntelliGO technology for ignition management and a pair of stylish new light-weight alloy wheels.  While ride modes will be given a miss on this one, Bluetooth connectivity and the LED headlight will remain standard. Even the new neon-green and blue colourway on offer help the XT establish its own signature style in the lineup.

In terms of tech, the new and intuitive instrument console can be paired with your IOS and Android smartphone using TVS SmartXonnect as before. However, a few new features include social media alerts, food delivery tracking and tracking the score of your favourite sport while stationary using the new slider screen. The ignition button has been given a miss in favour of the new voice command switch to help toggle between modes, adjust screen brightness, navigate and control your music. You also receive active alerts and warnings from the new device.

Under the skin, the NTorq XT still features the same 124.8cc, 3-valve fuel-injected, single-pot motor, delivering the same 9.38PS and 10.5Nm. The Race XP therefore continues to be the fastest of the lot, churning out 10.2PS and 10.8Nm. It even features IntelliGO technology (start-stop tech) and helps extract better fuel usage from your everyday commute. That said, the NTorq XT could have featured the more powerful state of tune as seen on the Race XP, especially given the leap in the asking price.

The TVS NTorq 125 has always excited us given its spunky performance and plethora of features for a nominal asking price. With prices surpassing the one lakh mark, do the new features justify the premium? Maybe not! The whole package would have felt a lot more lucrative if the engine delivered the same output as the Race XP at least!
