It’s the only bike in the segment to offer a dual-channel ABS
Bajaj has finally launched the Pulsar N160 at a price of Rs 1,22,854 for the single-channel ABS variant and Rs 1,27,853 for the dual-channel one (ex-showroom Delhi). While the single-channel ABS variant carries the same price, the dual-channel sees a Rs 4,999 price hike.
As we predicted in our exclusive story, the Pulsar N160 features a new 164.8cc, single-cylinder, air-oil-cooled engine. It churns out 16PS and 14.65Nm, which is 1.2PS less but 0.05Nm more than the NS160. That also makes it 1.55PS and 0.08Nm less than the segment leader, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. That said, as we speculated, Bajaj claims the torque kicks in a lot earlier, which should ideally make it perfect for snaking through the traffic in the city.
The bike opts for the Pulsar N250's frame, and also gets the telescopic fork and monoshock setup as its older sibling. That said, the telescopic fork for the dual-channel ABS is a 37mm one against the 31mm one for the single-channel one.
It also features alloy wheels braking is managed by discs at both ends. That said, the bike now gets fatter tyres compared to the NS160 with a 100-section at the front and 130-section at the rear. While we speculated that the bike might get a single-channel ABS, Bajaj surprised us by offering dual-channel ABS as a variant. You get a 300mm disc at the front for the dual-channel ABS variant while the single-channel one offers a 280mm disc.
The single-channel ABS has a kerb weight of 152kg while the dual-channel tips the scales at 154kg against the NS160’s 151kg. That makes it a fair bit heavier than the Apache RTR 160 4V (144kg) and a lot heavier than the Hero Xtreme 160R (138kg).
The fact that the N160 is a better value-for-money motorcycle than its predecessor, and more importantly, there is dual-channel ABS on offer. That said, the styling is quite similar to that of the N250 and we wish Bajaj had given the bike its own identity.
The N160 rivals the Hero Xtreme 160R, Yamaha FZ-S Fi V3, Suzuki Gixxer and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V.
