It has been a while now that BMW Motarrad has been selling few of its mean machines, motorcycles, in Indian automotive industry through its dealerships, Navnit Motors and Deutsche Motoren. Now, the manufacturer has launched the much awaited BMW F650 GS on-off road touring motorcycle in Indian bike market. BMW F650 GS is priced at Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The high price of BMW F650 GS is due to government policies of high import duties of 75 per cent levied on motorcycles and cars imported via completely built unit (CBU) route. The high price directly indicates that the 2012 BMW F650 GS will continue to be a dull seller, not that BMW Motorrad is addressing a huge sales anyway.

In India, the German auto biggie has been accompany a strategy of simply marking its presence in the fast growing high end sportsbike industry and this directly indicates the lack of CKD assembled models, which might be a better sellers due to them being relatively affordable than CBU bikes. The 2012 BMW F650 GS on-off road sportsbike has a heart of 800 cc parallel twin four stroke engine that develops 71 BHP of top power and 76 Nm of peak output torque. The powerful engine of the mean machine is coupled with a six speed manual transmission, which transmits the torque to rear wheel via a chain drive.

The engine of the bike is liquid cooled and fuel injected type. The BMW F650 GS runs on 19 inch and 17 inch front and rear wheels respectively, featuring disc type braking system. ABS is the most interesting safety measure on this on-off road speed-star which is aimed primarily hard core bike enthusiasts. The tried and tested telescopic suspensions at the front and adjustable monoshock suspensions at the rear end offers better driveability experience to rider even on rugged terrains.
