Confirmed to be launched in the first quarter of 2017, the BMW G 310 R is currently one of the most anticipated motorcycles in India. After the UK market, BMW Motorrad has now announced the price of its most affordable streetfighter for the US market. The G 310 R will be priced at $4,750 (around Rs 3.21 lakh) in the US, which is again slightly cheaper as compared to its direct rival, the KTM 390 Duke. The 390 Duke is priced in the US at $4,999 (around Rs 3.38 lakh) that is $249 (around Rs 16,800) more than the BMW G 310 R.
Now both motorcycles are manufactured in India with the assistance of their local partners - Bajaj for KTM and TVS for BMW Motorrad. That is reason enough to expect that BMW could price the G 310 R along the same lines as the KTM 390 Duke which is priced at Rs 1.96 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) here. We expect the upcoming BMW to be priced around Rs 1.85 lakh.
The BMW G 310 R is based on a completely new platform developed in Germany. BMW Motorrad has collaborated with TVS Motors who is manufacturing the G 310 R in India at its Chennai plant. The bike is intended for both domestic and international markets. Bolted on a steel-trellis frame, the naked sport motorcycle is powered by a 313cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor. Mated to a six-speed transmission, the fuel-injected motor delivers 34PS and 28Nm of torque. The company claims a top speed of 145kmph and returns a fuel economy of 30.18kmpl for the G 310 R.
The BMW G 310 R gets beefy USD forks, rear monoshock with adjustable preload, wide tubeless tyres, front and rear disc brakes along with ABS as a standard feature. It’s rival, the KTM 390 Duke has a higher performance output and along with all the features available on the BMW, it gets slipper clutch as a standard feature. Moreover, the upcoming 2017 model of the 390 Duke also gets new, sharper styling along with full LED lights and ride-by-wire technology which makes it an even better package as compared to the existing model. However, the perfectly sorted design of the G 310 R is also looking quite promising. And BMW has a better brand value in the premium motorcycle market, especially in the countries like India, and that is definitely going to help it to challenge the Austrian bikemaker.
