Bajaj-Triumph Project Delayed Yet Again

The new motorcycle is likely to debut towards the end of 2023

The new motorcycle is likely to debut towards the end of 2023

Earlier this year, news of the Bajaj-Triumph bike project being delayed broke out. The bike was initially slated to debut in 2022, but was then pushed to early 2023. Now, with the second wave of the pandemic, the project has been further delayed by six to nine months, with reports suggesting the bike will likely hit the showrooms towards the end of 2023.

The Indian two-wheeler giant has said that the prototypes have already been developed, but now the Triumph team must be there in person to make any correction required. With air travel between the UK and India suspended, there has been some sort of a standstill on this front.

The Bajaj-Triumph merger was announced last year in a bid to build affordable motorcycles under the British marque’s label. This merger relies on the R&D expertise of Triumph Motorcycles and Bajaj’s prowess of building cost-effective motorcycles. In fact, the new bike is expected to be priced under Rs 2 lakh, making it one of the most affordable motorcycles in the segment.

The bike will be manufactured at the new sprawling Rs 650 crore plant in Chakan (Maharashtra),. However, unlike the Bajaj-KTM partnership, this new tie-up will not spawn any Bajaj bike.

The new bike is likely to lock horns with the Jawa 42 2.1, Honda CB350RS, and the upcoming Royal Enfield Hunter 350. It may also pose a threat to other retro-roadsters like the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Benelli Imperiale 400.
