It is no secret that Aprilia has been working on an updated version of the SR 160, in fact we had broken this story last year. Just as Yamaha announced the launch of the Aerox 155 In India, a spy shot of the sporty Italian scooter being tested surfaced on the internet. The test mule spotted was equipped with a digital instrument console.
The console looked identical to the unit seen on the Aprilia SXR 160 and the SXR 125. It is one of the best-looking displays in the segment, and would be a worthy upgrade to the current semi-digital unit. Along with the usual tell-tale information, it shows data like RPM, mileage, average speed, fuel range, real-time fuel efficiency, max speed recorded, engine oil temperature, ambient temperature and battery voltage. Aprilia will also offer Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity and even navigation assist.

Along with the digital instrument console, we may see some minor updates in the design as well. While the spy shot doesnβt reveal much, the test mule sported an updated grab rail design, similar to that on its smaller-capacity sibling, the Aprilia SR 125. The Italian brand will upgrade the headlight and the taillight with LED units.
Aprilia is also likely to bring some new colours and graphics to the mix for the added visual appeal. Of course, the SR 125 too may see these design updates, however, it is likely that the digital instrument console could be offered as a new variant, just like the current model. Both the scooters are unlikely to see any mechanical changes.
The Aprilia SR 160 is priced Rs 1.06 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune) onwards. We expect the new scooter to be launched by the first half of 2022 and it could carry a premium of around Rs 3,000 to 5,000 over the current model.
