How does the RTR’s performance gain affect its rideability in the real world?

The 2021 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V has gained a noticeable power bump this year, making it the most powerful bike in its segment. But is the performance gain evident in the real world?

Acceleration:

0-60kmph

5.34 seconds

5.84 seconds

0-80kmph

9.34 seconds

10.7 seconds

0-100kmph

17.15 seconds

21.37 seconds

The RTR 160 4V makes 1.61PS and 0.61Nm more than the BS4 model. Not to mention, its power kicks in 1000 revs earlier, making it more usable. Though the 2021 RTR is quicker right from the get-go, the difference is apparent as the bike climbs up the revs.

It’s 4 seconds quicker than the previous version to 100kmph, which is a massive achievement! However, the bike still falls short when you compare it to the BS4 carb model. You still need to work the gearbox to get the most out of the engine.

Roll Ons:

30-70kmph in 3rd gear

6.68 seconds

6.66 seconds

40-80kmph in 4th gear

9.38 seconds

9.66 seconds

There's a definite improvement in the bike’s bottom and mid-range performance as well, but the difference is inconsequential. You won’t really notice the power difference while riding the bike in the city.

Braking:

80-0 kmph

42.28m (wet)

42.63m (wet)

60-0 kmph

24.64m (wet)

22.77m (wet)

The RTR’s brakes work with enough bite, feel, and progression. However, we would have loved to see a dual-channel ABS setup for better control over braking. The current single-channel ABS works well, but the rear still tends to step out during hard braking, which could get a little unnerving, especially on wet roads.

Fuel Efficiency:

City FE

53.32kmpl

54.78kmpl

Highway FE

48.16kmpl

49.57kmpl

Does the extra performance eat into the bike’s fuel efficiency? Well, just a tiny bit. The RTR is just as frugal as before, but it does burn a bit more fuel out on the highway. That could be a result of the higher speeds we maintained since the motor felt more at ease, leading to lower efficiency.

Overall, we'd say the 2021 RTR 160 4V is a definite improvement over the earlier BS6 version. It feels lively, an aspect enthusiasts would definitely appreciate.
