After Japan, Yamaha is now recalling the YZF-R3 in India due to clutch pressure plate assembly and oil pump assembly malfunction.

Yamaha recently recalled 1,458 units of its new performance motorcycle, the YZF-R3 in its motherland Japan. Now the company has also issued a recall notice for the bike in India as well. However, the issue with the R3s sold in India is different, and it includes clutch pressure plate assembly and oil pump assembly malfunction. Also, Yamaha India is recalling just a lot of 902 motorcycles falling in a certain production batch. As a part of the company's Factory Modification Campaign, the defect is being fixed free of cost at its authorised dealerships.

According to India Yamaha Motor, no safety issues have been raised for the YZF-R3 from anywhere in India and the company has decided to recall all the vehicles falling under the identified production numbers itself. Being a responsible corporate in the auto sector, Yamaha stated, “This recall is a reiteration of Yamaha’s commitment to safety of its customers and this action is not a result of complaints from customers but more of a preventive measure to ensure the safety of the customers.”

Launched in August 2015, the Yamaha YZF-R3 is priced in India at Rs 3.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is being brought into the country via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route. The super sports bike gets an impressive full-faired styling inspired by the aggressive R-series race motorcycles. Powering the bike is a parallel-twin motor displacing 321cc, which makes 42PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 29.6Nm. The bike features beefy 41mm telescopic forks at the front, monoshock at the rear, front and rear disc brakes, wide tyres and much more. Despite being a demand of the segment, the R3 misses out on ABS (anti-lock braking system).
