Yamaha XSR 155: Now The Best-Selling Yamaha Bike In India
The XSR 155 now sells more units than the Yamaha MT-15 Version 2.0 and the Yamaha R15 range combined
Yamaha launched the XSR 155, its neo-retro roadster in India, in November 2025. It is based on the same platform as the Yamaha R15 and the Yamaha MT-15 Version 2.0. When launched, it became an instant hit with enthusiastic buyers, who wanted a bike with retro-styling but with all the modern technology.
The XSR is powered by the same 155cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine shared with the Yamaha R15 and the Yamaha MT-15. It makes 18.4PS and 14.2Nm, paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch for preventing rear wheel lockups during those aggressive downshifts while riding enthusiastically.
Yamaha XSR 155 sold 16,359 units in November, which makes it the best-selling Yamaha bike India, and the second-best seller for the brand after the Yamaha RayZR 125 Fi Hybrid. For reference, Yamaha sold 21,049 units of the scooter in the same month. The XSR’s retro design has played a major role in its sales. The demand for retro and neo-retro styled bikes has been increasing for a while now. That, coupled with enthusiasts who were waiting for the Yamaha XSR 155, has helped the brand take good advantage of the situation.
We think the XSR outsold the FZ because Yamaha prioritised the production FZ range for exports rather than the domestic market. Also, the brand seems to have shifted production focus to the XSR instead of its other two 155cc siblings. This decision should have impacted the sales of these two models in November 2025.
With the launch of the XSR, Yamaha now offers the 155cc platform in 3 different flavours. And its sales numbers clearly indicate what the market prefers more. But, it would be quite interesting to see if this momentum of the XSR continues.

- I recommend for studentsStylish and mileage is good. The bike looks are amazing and the bike gives 42kmpl mileage in city. It is e85 compliant so you don't need to worry about fuel cost. Yahama have a good service and you usually get any parts of the bike easily. This bike in highway it's feel like you riding a jet and the bike is so so amazing and in highway it's give you 45-50 mileage and the sites is good and this bike have good in build quality and the bike weight is so light. For college students and works it's good bike have good mileage and low maintenance cost so for college students is good. - This bike is awesome and stableI choose this bike because of performance and mileage. Everything is perfect in the bike and the look and design is really awesome. It looks like a racer bike. This bike suit me a lot because I am 5.6. The performance of this bike is really awesome.
