Take a closer look at the India-bound Aerox 155

The Yamaha Aerox 155 is India-bound and all set to be the Japanese two-wheeler giant's flagship scooter here. We’re taking a closer look at it here:

The Yamaha Aerox 155 has made quite a name for itself in Southeast Asian markets, thanks to its impressive package.

Starting with the design, the Aerox 155 certainly comes off as a handsome scooter.

Up front, you get a wide LED headlamp and fairing-mounted indicators along with a small tinted visor, all these coming together to give it a sporty-looking fascia.

Towards the middle, there’s a bridge between the handlebar and the seat. Surprisingly, this bridge houses the fuel filler cap, which we’re used to seeing at the rear.

When aboard the Aerox 155, you sit on a scooped single-piece seat.

The Aerox’s tail is sleek and minimal with a small LED tail light.

The Yamaha Aerox 155 packs LED illumination, hazard lights, a USB port, and a digital LCD instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity. All these features come as standard. Moreover, since the Aerox is over 150cc, it will also come with single-channel ABS.

Under the bodywork is a 155cc VVA-equipped engine borrowed from the R15. Here, though, the motor is paired to a CVT gearbox.

The recently leaked type-approval documents revealed that the India-spec Aerox would put out 14.95PS, which is a healthy 4PS more than its arch-rival, the  Aprilia SXR 160

The Aerox rolls on 14-inch wheels and is sprung on a telescopic front fork and twin shock absorbers. It could come with wide 110-/140-section (F/R) tyres.

To help cut speed, the Aerox gets a single disc up front along with a drum brake at the rear.

Lastly, it has a seat height of 790mm and a fuel tank capacity of 5.5 litres, which is on par with most Indian scooters. Judging from all this, the Aerox 155 would be good value if priced around the Rs 1.40 lakh mark.
