TVS XL 100 Gets 6-Month EMI Breather

TVS hopes the EMI scheme will help revive sales of the popular moped
- The XL 100 is TVS’ best-selling two-wheeler.

The COVID-19 lockdown has taken a heavy toll on the two-wheeler industry and while sales showed some sort of revival, TVS Motors’s sales figures declined by 80 per cent. To arrest this slide in sales, manufacturers have been innovating with new strategies, finance schemes, and more. TVS has announced a new “buy now and pay after six months” offer for the TVS XL 100. Customers basically don’t have to pay EMIs for the initial six months and the EMIs will be postponed, not cancelled. The LTV (loan to value) for this special scheme is 75 per cent which means that TVS will finance up to 75 per cent of the ex-showroom price of the vehicle.
The TVS XL 100 is the brand's most popular two-wheeler offering and the Hosur-based company hopes that this lucrative EMI offer will rejuvenate sales of its popular moped. TVS has mentioned that this offer is only valid till July 31, 2020. The TVS XL 100 is also among the cheapest two-wheelers on sale in India, with the base variant retailing at Rs 44,294 (ex-showroom). As we mentioned before, it doesn’t have a direct rival and the only bike that undercuts it with respect to price is the Bajaj CT 100 at Rs 41,923 (ex-showroom).
Talking about the product, the XL 100 is the most affordable fuel-injected two-wheeler on sale in India and also the only moped on sale from a mainstream brand. It's utilitarian and hugely popular as a delivery service vehicle in urban markets. In rural areas, the rugged nature of the moped along with its huge load carrying capacity has made it hugely popular, especially in the southern part of the country.
Powering the XL 100 is a 99.7cc air-cooled engine that produces a measly 4.4PS and 6.5Nm of torque. Don’t let the humble figures fool you as the moped does punch above its weight and we even rode one to Goa for the inaugural TVS MotoSoul event. It continues to use a single-speed gearbox with a centrifugal clutch.
