It's no secret that a cafe racer, Thruxton 400, from Triumph is in the works and it will be based upon the Speed 400’s platform. The motorcycle has been spied testing again and this time around, we have spotted some new details of the bike.
Revised Design
The spied image reveals that the Triumph Thruxton 400 will get a revised tail section as the tail light looks different than that of the Speed 400. Apart from this the rear seat also sports a cowl which adds to the cafe-racer appeal of the motorcycle. The motorcycle borrows some design elements from the bigger capacity cafe racers from Triumph such as a half fairing with a bigger flyscreen, raised clip-on handlebars with bar-end mirrors, and rear-set footpegs.
Similar Underpinnings
The Triumph Thruxton 400 will most likely be built upon the same platform as the Triumph Speed 400, with a tubular steel chassis and a bolt-on rear subframe. It could get the same 398.15cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine as well, which makes 40PS and 37.5Nm, and is paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The spied image reveals that the bike will get a USD fork and a monoshock. Triumph may tweak the suspension setup to handle the extra weight which comes with the fairing. The instrument console could be the same semi-digital instrument cluster with an analogue speedometer unit.
Expected Price and Launch Date
The Triumph Thruxton 400 is expected to command a premium over the Speed 400. The motorcycle could be priced at Rs 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom) and will slot right in between the Triumph Scrambler 400X which is priced at Rs 2,64,946 and the Speed 400 which is available for Rs 2,40,000 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). The motorcycle is expected to launch in this year itself and will go up against the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650.
