This Dakar Inspired Royal Enfield Himalayan Could Lay The Foundation For The Next-gen Model

This rally-inspired custom build is the product of Indonesia-based Thrive Motorcycle

We’ve come across several custom builds for the Royal Enfield Himalayan, but none as gorgeous as this one. This Dakar-inspired Royal Enfield Himalayan has been made by Thrive Motorcycle from Indonesia. Thrive chose to go with the 2019 Himalayan, considering it’s simple and affordable, packs a basic air-cooled 411cc single cylinder engine, and single-channel and ABS for tech. The idea was to retain the Himalayan’s rawness and yet couple that with present-day elements for a modern look. 

Instead of beating metal to the desired shape, the folks from Thrive Motorcycle wanted to try something different. The idea was to use 3D-printed moulds to shape fibreglass parts that could bolt onto the bike easily. These moulds can also be used to build similar bolt-on kits for other customers who’d like to customise their Himalayans with minimal effort. Exports are a possible alternative as well. 

For starters, the headlight bracket has been covered by newly designed side fairings, which connect the Himalayan’s fuel tank and windscreen together. The side panels, seat pan, and rear fender are made from a single mould.

The headlight mounts have been 3D-printed as well, now featuring a pair of PIAA auxiliary lights. The rear features an aluminium license plate bracket and a hidden cover to keep debris out of the under-seat area. The seat, in fact, has a quick-release mechanism, while the rear section comes with mounting points for soft luggage like the Kriega dry bag.

To keep costs in check, the team has thrown in a bunch of their THRV catalogue parts, including LED turn signals, handlebars, footpegs, and that beautiful stainless steel upswept exhaust. The only parts which had to be procured from elsewhere were a pair of Pirelli Scorpion MT60 tires, fog lights, and an Ohlins RE907 rear shock.

The concept may have stemmed from the idea of a Dakar-inspired bike, but the paint scheme took inspiration from a very special Group B rally car. This 911SC RS belonged to the Porsche Rothmans Rally Team, which competed in the 1984 season. And the livery on the car was just the perfect fit for what Thrive had in mind for the custom Himalayan. The result was a splash of white with blue graphics and gold and red pinstripes. Parts like the rims, top yoke, and handlebar risers were finished in gold as well, lending the bike its retro rally vibe.

This custom Himalayan from Thrive Motorcycle shows us what’s really possible with the ADV. The idea is simple yet beautifully executed. The best part is that you could import the same kit and slap it onto your Himalayan.
