Two of India’s most popular 125cc scooters go head-to-head

Suzuki Access 125 vs Honda Activa 125

When we talk about the inception of 125cc automatic scooters in India, there is a fair chance one of these two names shows up. The Suzuki Access 125 and the Honda Activa 125 are arguably the two longest-running names in the premium 125cc scooter space. Both have spent years building the kind of trust that comes only from lakhs of daily commutes, school runs, and grocery trips. They both look pretty similar on paper, but the way each brand has gone about updating its scooter tells slightly different stories. So, which one’s latest iteration deserves a place in your daily routine? Let’s find out.

    • The Suzuki Access 125 has a much more accessible starting price, making its base trim about Rs 9,000 more affordable than the Honda Activa 125 DLX.
    • Suzuki also offers the Access in six variants, giving buyers a wider range of options when it comes to balancing features and affordability, compared with the Activa 125’s two variants.

    • The top-spec Access 125 costs about Rs 5,650 more than the Activa 125 H-SMART, but that premium gets you single-channel ABS (front), making the Access the first scooter in India’s 125cc segment to offer this safety feature.

    • The Activa 125, meanwhile, packs plenty of features, including alloy wheels, a front disc brake and a connected TFT screen, as standard. When comparing similarly equipped versions, the two scooters are priced fairly close to each other.

    • Suzuki offers a standard warranty of 2 years/24,000km on the Access 125, while Honda provides a more generous 3 years/36,000km cover as standard with the Activa 125.

    • Honda also offers more generous warranty extension options, with coverage of up to 10 years/1,20,000km, compared with Suzuki’s extended coverage of up to 10 years/76,000km.

    • Both scooters are more or less identical in size, with the same wheelbase and almost identical ground clearance.
    • The Suzuki Access 125 has a marginally taller seat than the Honda Activa 125, but the difference is negligible in terms of accessibility. This is especially true given that both scooters weigh the same.

    • With a considerably longer seat, the Access offers more room for both the rider and the pillion than the Activa 125.

    • Park them side by side, and their designs clearly reflect two very different personalities. The Access adopts a classy, European-influenced styling with clean strokes, garnished with chrome accents. The Activa 125, on the other hand, takes a more contemporary but simpler approach to the traditional family scooter design, with chrome detailing adding a touch of premiumness.

    • The fundamentals of both scooters are nearly identical. They use similar frames and suspension setups, and their wheel sizes are the same, too.
    • The two scooters also get similar tyre sizes on alloy wheels and a braking setup comprising a front disc and rear drum, except for the base Access 125, which gets steel wheels and a front drum brake.

    • Both scooters feel well planted at city speeds and are easy to manoeuvre through traffic. Both get combined braking, but the Access 125 has an edge in braking confidence, with ABS available on two variants.

    • This is where the two really differ. While both scooters are packed with features, most of them are common, but a few key additions set them worlds apart.
    • The Suzuki Access 125 gets all-LED lighting, while the Honda Activa 125 uses LED technology only for its headlamp.

    • The Activa 125 gets a connected TFT display on both variants, while the Access 125 gets an LCD screen as standard. However, the Access also offers a TFT display on two variants and connected features on four, giving buyers the flexibility to choose the combination they want or prioritise affordability over gadgetry.

    • Both scooters offer Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone pairing, with features such as turn-by-turn navigation, call and SMS alerts, music control and weather updates. Suzuki’s Ride Connect, however, goes a step further with WhatsApp and calendar alerts, traffic and speed alerts, a digital wallet and other connected features.

    • Surprisingly, the Activa 125 H-Smart variant misses out on a kick starter and relies solely on the electric starter, while the Access 125 gets both as standard.

    • Suzuki takes a different approach to convenience, offering a larger underseat storage capacity and dual front glove pockets.

    • Both scooters feature a USB charging port near the front storage pocket, but the Activa 125’s Type-C port charges slightly faster.

    • Side-stand engine cut-off and Combined Braking System (CBS) are standard on both scooters, but the Access 125 goes a step further with single-channel ABS on two variants, giving it a clear edge in the family scooter segment.

    • The Suzuki Access also gets a hazard indicator switch, which is another thoughtful safety addition.

    • Honda offers an advanced idle stop-start system on the Activa 125, which cuts the engine after a few seconds of idling to help save fuel.

    • Clearly, the Suzuki Access 125 puts greater emphasis on practicality and safety, while the Honda Activa 125 adds a bit more flaunt factor.

    • Both scooters are propelled by the same type of engine and transmission combination.

    • Peak output figures of both scooters are also closely matched, with the Honda Activa 125 producing just 0.3Nm more than the Suzuki Access 125.

    • Considering they have nearly identical weight and proportions, the performance of the two scooters should match closely, too.

    Honda Activa 125

    Verdict

The Suzuki Access 125 is the more flexible choice if you want to pick your preferred price point. It starts at a lower price, offers the full range of features across its variants, and is also the only family scooter here to offer ABS. Its practical storage spaces and thoughtful range of features make it an all-rounder in the 125cc scooter space, while its classy design adds plenty of character.

The Honda Activa 125 starts at a slightly higher price point but gets the same TFT display and Bluetooth connectivity as standard. And then there’s the unique, car-like remote key fob on the higher H-Smart variant, which adds another distinctive touch. Add Honda's long warranty runway and the badge's long-standing reputation for reliability, and the Activa 125 makes an equally strong case, just from a different angle.

If safety, practicality and outright storage space matter more to you, or if you have a thing for classic European scooter designs, go with the Suzuki Access. Otherwise, if you want a few unique features and the brand popularity that comes with the Honda Activa name, the Activa 125 is very hard to beat.

    Comparisons With Other Rivals

    • If under-seat storage is your priority, the TVS Jupiter 125 has a clear advantage over the Suzuki Access 125, while offering a fairly similar set of features, too.

    • The updated Destini 125 brings sharper styling and more affordable pricing, while its 5-year standard warranty sweetens the deal further compared to the Access 125.

    User Reviews

    • Suzuki Access 125
      Positive Review of Access 125
As being an adult, I needed a vehicle to commute to places, I had to select a scooter for house chores and personal uses. I took advice from many people, used AI for comparisons, took reviews, test rides and then selected it as a final decision. So far the ride is comfortable, we can ride for hours without getting back pain or anything, with a good mileage receiving at a petrol scooter, I have no tension about how much I ride on daily basis, the handling, brakes, tyres and suspension are all best. A family person or a new adult should purchase it or as a first two wheeler owner too. You can purchase it. I would surely recommend to you. I will take guarantee of u not regretting getting this scooter.

      Good performance
Maine yeh bike iske stylish looks aur family-friendly comfort ke liye chuni hai. Yeh acha mileage deti hai aur highways par kaafi smooth chalti hai. City rides mein suspension thoda stiff lagta hai, par iski overall reliability isse perfect banati hai. Ride ab tak kamaal ki rahi hai. Iska comfort aur handling behad zabardast hai, jisse highway par tez speed mein chalana aasan ho jata hai. Mileage bhi kaafi acha hai. Bas bumpy city roads par suspension thoda stiff lagta hai. Highly recommend! Yeh un logon ke liye perfect hai jo daily commute ke sath weekend highway rides pasand karte hain. Iske superb mileage, stylish looks aur rock-solid reliability ke liye ise zaroor khareedein. Bas kharab raston par suspension thoda stiff hai.
