Simple Seeking Rizta With More Buyers, New Family Electric Scooter Design Patented

Simple Energy has filed a new electric scooter design patent in India of what looks to be its Ather Rizta rival. The patent images suggest that Simple is now targeting a wider, family-oriented audience – similar to what Ather did when it launched the Rizta after the sporty 450X lineup. This model will likely be the entry point for the brand.

Design & Styling

Unlike the sharp and aggressive design of the Simple One, this upcoming scooter has a clean, minimalistic look. The apron has a neatly integrated split LED headlamp with DRLs and turn indicators. It has simple lines, whereas an oval cut-out of sorts keeps the side section interesting. The long, flat seat ends in a pillion backrest, likely to be cushioned. The underseat storage could also be generous.

Motor, Battery, Range, & Performance

The output figures are expected to be lower than Simple’s current electric scooter lineup, and the battery capacity, particularly in the lower-end variants, are also likely to be around 3kWh or a bit less than that. Expect a triple-digit range even in the base variant as that would be practical enough for daily commutes. For perspective, the Simple OneS has a 3.7kWh battery with 181km claimed range, while the Simple One Gen 1.5 gets a bigger 5kWh battery with 248km of range. But, both have the same mid-mounted electric motor with a peak power of 8.5kW and 72Nm.

Underpinnings

From the design patents, the scooter looks to have a telescopic fork, 12-inch wheels at both ends (same as the One and OneS), and mounting points on the left fork for a front brake caliper, though the disc itself isn’t present. For reference, the OneS and One Gen 1.5 share the same fork, monoshock, 12-inch alloy wheels, 90-section tubeless tyres, 200mm front and 190mm rear disc brake with CBS (Combined Braking System). Simple might offer an affordable variant with a front drum brake too. 

Expected Launch & Pricing

The patent suggests that the Simple family electric scooter is just in its initial stages of development, as some components (brakes) are missing in the image, and also the fact that no test mules have been spotted so far. So, we think the scooter could launch sometime in 2026 at the least, though 2027 seems more likely. As for pricing, it could sit somewhere between the Rs 90,000 and Rs 1,10,000 mark. For context, the OneS is currently priced at Rs 1,39,999 and the One Gen 1.5 at Rs 1,66,694 (ex-showroom).

Rivals

This new Simple electric scooter will compete with other family-oriented EVs like the Ather Rizta, TVS iQube electric range, Bajaj Chetak lineup, Vida VX2 twins, Honda Activa e:, TVS Orbiter, and the upcoming Suzuki e-Access. All of these target riders seeking practicality and comfort over performance.

In 2025, Simple Energy registered a total of 4,388 electric scooters, a sizeable jump from 1,420 units in 2024 (as per data from the Vahan portal). While the jump has been substantial by the brand’s own standards, it still has a long way to go if it has to compete with mainstream rivals. Currently, the company has 50 showrooms across 32 cities, with plans to expand in the next 2 years.  In addition to its expansion plans, introducing a family scooter could help the brand compete better in the family electric scooter segment.
