Simple Energy has launched the new Simple One S Gen 2 in India.

Simple One S – Overview

The Simple One S is a light weight and compact electric scooter. Offered in a single variant, it provides a perfect range for city commutes, along with a decent list of features.

Design

The One S carries a sharp and aggressive design language. It features an apron-mounted headlamp, neatly integrated DRLs on the handlebar cowl, and a clean looking tail section that ties in nicely with the front, giving the scooter a sporty overall stance. The One S also gets a new design for the rear view mirrors, which look sleeker, and Simple Energy claims it to be more aerodynamic and it also offers better visibility. 

The One S is available in three colour options: Grace White, Azure Blue and Brazen Black. We like the Brazen Black shade a bit more than other colours though.

Features

Safety

The battery pack is made safer, as it offers 50% better frontal impact resistance than the Gen 1.5. The Simple One S is equipped with a traction control that offers 4 modes: Road, Rain, Track and Rally – along with one level of regenerative braking. These settings help maintain better grip across different riding conditions. It gets 3 riding modes: Eco, Normal, and Air (called Dash mode earlier).

Convenience

The scooter gets a 7-inch non-touchscreen TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, ride statistics, OTA updates and customisable themes. Cruise control is offered in two formats: Standard and Metro. While Standard works like regular cruise control, Metro mode is designed for city use and automatically adjusts speed even with frequent braking and stops.

The Simple One S is loaded with a wide range of safety, convenience and connected features. These include fall detection with Drop Safe, hill-hold assist called Super Hold, park mode, hazard lights that automatically activate during hard braking, a limp-home mode (restricts performance in case of a fault in the system), TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system), speed limiter and crawl mode. There’s also a ‘Ping My Scooter’ function to help locate the scooter in parking lots, along with theft alerts and follow-me-home lights.

On the connectivity front, the scooter offers geofencing to restrict usage within a predefined area, as well as time fencing that limits operation to specific hours. The digital console can be paired with a smartwatch via Simple Energy’s Companion app, allowing riders to check essential details like the odometer reading, battery charge status and available range.

In terms of practicality, the One S gets an illuminated 35-litre underseat storage compartment, which is 17 per cent larger than the 30-litre unit on the Gen 1.5. It also features a 1-litre glove box mounted on the apron, along with a USB charging port for added convenience.

Rider Comfort

It gets a seat height of 780mm, which is 16mm lower than before, and should make the One S quite manageable for most riders. Along with this, the One S comes with a 172mm ground clearance, which is pretty decent. Its kerb weight stands at 118kg, which is quite light for an electric scooter of this size. The upright riding posture should suit daily commuting well.

Pillion Comfort

The scooter comes with a spacious single-piece seat, and pillion space is adequate for regular use.

Motor & Battery

The Simple One S is offered with a 3.7kWh battery pack option (IP67 rated), which powers a 6.4kW, 52Nm (peak) motor. It comes with a 750W charger which charges from 0 to 80 percent in 4 hours. This should allow you to charge your scooter at home or at your workplace easily.

Performance

Simple Energy says it has improved the throttle response of the Simple One S by 9%, and that it can accelerate from 0 to 40kmph in 3 seconds, has a top speed of 90kmph and a claimed IDC range of 190km. That should last almost a week if your commute is about 20-25km everyday. 

With the standard warranty of 3 years, Simple Energy offers two extended warranty plans:  Simple Protect plan and Simple Super Protect plan, which extends the warranty up to 5 years/50,000km and 8 years/80,000km, respectively. Simple Energy also offers a 'Lifetime Warranty' plan that extends the battery and motor warranty to 15 years and unlimited kilometers at an extra cost.

Brakes

Braking duties are handled by a 200mm disc at the front and a 190mm disc at the rear, supported by a combined braking system (CBS). According to the testing done by Simple Energy, the One S takes 18.5 meters to come from 60kmph to 0. This braking performance is claimed to be 13% better than the Gen 1.5.

Rivals

The Simple One S goes up against the Ather 450 S, which is comparatively more affordable than the Simple One S.
