Here’s a closer look at what this new scooter promises to offer

After waiting for nearly a year, we finally got our hands on the highly-anticipated Simple One recently. Simple had made big claims during the launch of this electric scooter and we put it through its paces on some closed roads to find out if it delivered on all fronts.

The Simple One looks quite different now from what we were shown at the time of launch. Its sporty design combined with intricate details are appealing in the flesh. The fascia showcases LED indicators which are nicely fitted into the small winglets on the apron. Further adding to the premiumness of the scooter are chrome highlights inside the headlight unit.

The LED taillight looks similar to the Ducati Panigale V4, and features intricate details that gel well with the overall shape of the scooter at the rear.

During the launch last year, the Simple One’s main talking point was its claimed performance. Well, the company has managed to deliver where it mattered the most. The ‘Eco’ mode allows a top speed of 45kmph, which is enough for the city. The ‘Sonic’ mode impressed us as we managed to clock a speedo-indicated 104kmph in this mode, although we do wish it packed more punch below 30kmph.

The impressive performance is further accentuated by an equally capable chassis. The One is nimble and easy to steer. It also features the sticky MRF Nylogrip Zapper N tyres that offer immense confidence while cornering.

Simple has equipped this e-scooter with souped up braking hardware too. Feedback from the brake levers is good, and is linear throughout. It also comes with a combination braking system, that ensured the scooter remained planted even when we braked hard from 90kmph to bring it to a grinding halt.

While the Simple One wooed us with its riding dynamics, the overall fit and finish of the scooter still left much to be desired. It had unrefined edges and inconsistent fittings all around. Simple, though, has assured that these kinks would be ironed out by the time this scooter hits production by September.

Overall, the One presents itself as a stunning looking scooter while packs performance that could blow away the competition and also features loads of modern features and impressive hardware.

However, considering they are a relatively new company, nailing the build quality on the first attempt may feel a little difficult to achieve, as the pre-production units we rode were poorly put together. Simple, though, has got its fundamentals right, hence it should not be too difficult for them to ensure that the quality improves when the scooter finally goes into series production.

Simple aims to commence deliveries of the One by Diwali this year. And considering that this promising package is accompanied by an ex-showroom price tag of only Rs 1.10 lakh, we could witness a serious contender to rule the premium e-scooter segment.
