New Harley-Davidson Street Rod 750 To Be Launched In India

The bike is based on the Street 750 and takes design inspiration from the iconic Harley-Davidson XR dirt series

Harley-Davidson has recently unveiled its upcoming entry-level motorcycle - the Street Rod. The bike has also been listed in the company's Indian product line-up, hinting at its India launch. Once launched, it will become the second most affordable H-D bike in the market.

The Street Rod is based on the same platform that is used by H-D’s most affordable motorcycle in India, the Street 750. In fact, it uses the same fuel tank and side panels along with the same single-pod instrument cluster. However, the styling looks significantly influenced by the heritage dirt-trackers -- the Harley-Davidson XR series. The rear and the front fascia look all new and the dimensions of the motorcycle have also been revised for a more agile handling.

In comparison to the Street 750 cruiser, the Street Rod offers a shorter wheelbase along with a reduced rake, which will surely provide better flickability to the bike. The ground clearance has been increased to 205mm to tackle various types of terrains and it also results in an increased seat height of 765mm.

The Street Rod uses the same 750cc, liquid-cooled, "Revolution X" V-Twin that powers its sibling. However, it gives 18 per cent more power to the Street Rod with an increased compression ratio and larger fuel injection port. The peak torque output also gets a bump of 3Nm, pushing it to 62Nm that comes at 4,000rpm. The motor continues to get the same six-speed gearbox and there is no change in the gear ratios as well.

Coming to the cycle parts, there are lots of improvements as compared to the Street 750. The Street Rod gets wide tyres and coil-over rear shock absorbers with external reservoir, providing the bike with an improved ride quality. Inverted forks at the front will definitely work better while adding to the sportiness of the machine. Improved braking performance will be delivered with dual 300mm disc brakes at the front while the rear continues with the same set-up. ABS hasn't been mentioned on the website yet, but it could be introduced as an optional extra.

Like the Street 750, the new Street Rod will most probably be manufactured at the company's Indian production facility in Bawal, Haryana. It will definitely help the company to price it aggressively and we can expect it to carry a price tag of somewhere around Rs 6 lakh in the country.
