[UPDATE: Finally! KTM India is all set to launch the 790 Duke on 23 September. Here are all the details regarding the official launch of the bike.]

KTM is all set to launch the 790 Duke in India. The bike has already started reaching dealerships and will reportedly come with an ex-showroom price of Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom). That’s Rs 1.5 lakh more than what we had earlier anticipated, which can be attributed to the bike being imported as a CBU (Completely Built Unit). As a result of this, the India-spec KTM 790 Duke isn’t any different from the international model, and the leaked brochure is a testament to this. Bookings for the motorcycle have commenced for a token amount that ranges between Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 depending on the dealership.

It’s powered by a new LC8 799cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin motor that dishes out 104.6PS at 9,000 and 87Nm at 8,000rpm. The motor comes mated to a 6-speed transmission with a bi-directional quickshifter. Safety aids come in the form of cornering ABS, cornering traction control, anti-wheelie, launch control and four riding modes (Sport, Street, Rain, Track). The 790 Duke also gets engine braking control and supermoto mode, which switches off ABS for the rear wheel for some sideways action.

Its suspension setup comprises of a 43mm upside down fork and a monoshock, both from WP. Putting a leash on the bike are twin 300mm disc brakes clamped by radially mounted four-piston calipers and a single 240mm disc brake. The 790cc mid-displacement streetfighter weighs in at just 169kg (dry).

Once launched, the KTM 790 Duke will go up against the Suzuki GSX-S750 and the Kawasaki Z900, which are priced relatively lower at Rs 7.52 lakh and Rs 7.69 lakh respectively (ex-showroom).
