KTM 390 Adventure X Real-World Mileage Test
Can it actually deliver on KTM’s 400km range claim? Here’s your answer…

I recently put the KTM 390 Adventure X through a proper highway mileage test, and the result turned out to be quite interesting. To keep things accurate, I followed the full-tank method, which means filling the tank to the brim before starting and topping it up again after completing the ride. This ensured a precise measurement of the fuel used across the entire journey.
Test Route & Riding Conditions
The ride included a round trip from the outskirts of Pune to Satara, covering close to 160km. This route offers a bit of everything: long, open highway stretches, a few twisty sections, and light traffic in patches, making it ideal for simulating real-world touring conditions.
Throughout the ride, speeds were kept steady between 110-120kmph. Throttle inputs were smooth, and braking was kept to a minimum to replicate a typical long-distance highway run.

Real World Mileage
At the end of the test, the KTM 390 Adventure X took in 6.25 litres of fuel to reach full capacity again. Based on the distance covered, this works out to a real-world fuel efficiency of 24.94kmpl.
Considering the bike was ridden at relatively high speeds, this figure is quite respectable. With its 14.5-litre fuel tank, the motorcycle can deliver a theoretical range of just over 360km on a full tank under similar riding conditions. KTM, however, claims that the bike is capable of covering over 400km on a full tank under ideal riding conditions.

What You Can Expect
If you dial things down and cruise between 80-100kmph, the KTM is likely to return better efficiency figures, somewhere in the range of 25-30kmpl depending on how you ride.
Of course, factors like traffic, terrain, wind resistance, and riding aggression will influence the final numbers. But overall, the bike offers a decent balance between performance and fuel economy for highway touring.

BikeDekho Says
A real-world mileage of 24.94kmpl is fairly impressive for a performance-focused ADV like the KTM 390 Adventure X, especially when ridden at triple-digit speeds. While efficiency isn’t its strongest suit, the bike still manages to offer a usable touring range without compromising on its fun-to-ride nature. All said and done, we also tested the mileage of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, and the bike surprised us!

- My First KTM - Powerful and comfortableFirst time KTM owner. Wanted a bike mainly for highway touring and city rides. X plus felt balanced and practical not extreme offroad. Test ride at KTM helped decide. Always wanted a KTM but due to my tall height was waiting for a taller bike, which I got atlast Done around 4500kms already in 4 months. Very stable on highways and easily touches 150kmph. City riding is okay but heats up in traffic but that is expected because the engine is a highly compressed 400cc single cylinder. Mileage is 19-20 in city and around 28 in highways. Yes, I would recommend it for riders who want touring comfort, strong performance and balanced offroad ability. Good balance bike if your usage is city plus highways. It can easily handle even off-roading, you will be surprised by its performance and handling.Read More4 1
