Kawasaki ZX-14R To Be Discontinued Soon

Kawasaki is unlikely to update the ZX-14R for stricter emission norms that are set to be implemented in India and Europe soon

• The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R has been on sale for the past 13 years.
• Over the years, the bike only received new paint and a few rider aids.
• The 2020 iteration of the ZX-14R is available on order basis in India. 

Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Kawasaki has announced the end of the road for the ZX-14R. The brand will stop production of the bike post 2020. That said, the 2020 iteration of the supersport will be available on sale in India through order basis. If we were you and had the money, we’d surely pick one up as ZX-14R has all the makings of a future classic.

Unfortunately, there’s no reason cited from Kawasaki for the bike’s sudden demise. However, we feel the upcoming emissions norms could be one of the reasons which forced Kawasaki to pull the plug on the supersport. Another justification could be the introduction of the Ninja H2 SX SE which packs more punch while being lighter and better equipped than the ZX-14R.

Not to mention, the ZX-14R hasn’t received any substantial updates over the years. The only changes came in the form of new paint schemes with graphics and rider aids to keep you safe.    

The Ninja ZX-14R was Kawasaki’s answer to the iconic Hayabusa, which is also due for an update. It even beat the ‘Busa and holds the title of "the world's most powerful production motorcycle" by setting a new Australian Land Speed record. Suzuki, though, will soon make a comeback to claim this title with the updated Hayabusa that’s likely to feature a brand new chassis, swingarm and a Euro 5-compliant engine with over 200PS of power.
