Hero MotoCorp- the world's largest two wheeler manufacturer has registered a European trademark for its upcoming quarter-litre motorcycle- HX250R, which means that the company may launch the bike there as well. Designed in association with its new technology partner- Erik Buell Racing (EBR), the new bike shares many design elements with the EBR superbikes. It is expected to be launched in India by the end of 2014 or early 2015.
Hero also owns 51% ruling stakes in the EBR and already opened its first European office in Netherlands. Speculations also says that the company might brand the Hero HX250R under the EBR name for the European market.
The upcoming HX250R has been designed like a proper track machine, housing a 249cc, single-cylinder, liquid cooled, 4-valve engine. The new engine delivers the best-in-class performance with 31bhp of maximum power along with a peak torque of 26Nm. The bike is expected to be priced comparatively to its closest competitor- Honda CBR300R, which has a slightly lesser power output of 30.4bhp and 27.1Nm of torque.
Apart from the power output, the Hero HX250R has been bolted on a tubular steel frame using the engine as a stressed member and the whole assembly weighs only 139 kg. It makes the power-to-weight ratio of the bike far better from its 164 kg weighing rival- Honda CBR300R.
Recently, Hero has also trademarked seven small capacity models in addition to the HX250R
