Expect it to be launched in India some time around March 2026

    Yamaha Aerox-E Price Details

At the launch of the Yamaha XSR155, the Japanese brand surprised us with the unveiling of not one but two EVs, designed specifically for India. One of them was a slightly sporty take on the River Indie, called the Yamaha EC-06, and the other one was a proper sporty scooter, the Yamaha Aerox-E. While the Yamaha EC-06 has been launched now, our dealer sources have now given us a clear idea about the pricing of the Aerox-E.

They’ve revealed that it might be priced at just below the Rs 3 lakh mark (ex-showroom), perhaps around Rs 2.90 lakh. For perspective, the Yamaha Aerox 155 costs half, at Rs 1,42,700 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the top-end S variant. Expect the brand to launch the electric scooter in March 2026, and its availability will likely be limited at the beginning, followed by phase-wise expansion, just like how Yamaha is doing with the EC-06.

Why Will It Be So Costly?

    Because powerful motor

With the Aerox-E, Yamaha aims to offer performance equivalent to that of a 150cc petrol-powered scooter. Consequently, it has a powerful motor making 9.4kW (peak), and a generous 48Nm. It even has multiple riding modes: Eco, Standard, and Power, in addition to a Boost mode for short bursts of acceleration. For added convenience, there’s a Reverse mode as well. All these aspects along with the powerful motor (and the sourcing logistics of it) and a matching battery management system will add to the costs.

    Also because removable batteries

Speaking of batteries, the Aerox-E comes with not one but two removable battery packs totalling 3kWh capacity. Though Yamaha has largely based the Aerox-E’s chassis off the petrol-powered Aerox 155, Yamaha still had to make modifications to the chassis to accommodate two battery packs that are designed to be removable. Each battery pack will have to have its own casing and proper packaging, and that will also contribute to the overall price.

Another aspect is that Yamaha will have to establish a brand new battery assembly plant particularly for the Aerox-E. Note that the EC-06 is manufactured by River, so for the electric Aerox, Yamaha will have to go a few steps above and beyond. Technically, this will be the first Yamaha electric scooter manufactured in India. This will obviously involve a huge investment as Yamaha will have to establish and streamline the supply chain for all the parts required. These aspects come into play when strategising the pricing of the first product.

Sure, the Aerox E will be expensive, but the bright side is that you will not need to pay monthly fees for battery usage, like you would on the Honda Activa e:, as you can simply charge them at home. Having a portable configuration means you can also charge them in the office without needing a dedicated charging point at the parking lot.

    Parting thoughts

At the end of the day, the Yamaha Aerox-E is not designed to be a proper mass-market commuter anyway. It’s more of a green technology showcase for the company offering enthusiasts a taste of eco-friendly sporty performance - especially from a mainstream Japanese brand. In a way, this perfectly matches the brand principles of Yamaha.

It will serve as a learning platform for Yamaha to fine tune its upcoming EVs, which, hopefully, will have more accessible price tags and longer list of features - something that’s crucial to survive in the highly competitive Indian electric scooter segment.
