2026 Yamaha WR125R Launched Abroad: Entry-Level Dual-Sport For New Riders

Yamaha has launched the 2026 WR125R in the US, UK and other developed markets, positioning it as an entry-level dual-sport motorcycle aimed at new and younger riders. The WR125R sits at the bottom of Yamaha’s dual-sport ladder and is designed as a stepping stone into adventure and off-road riding.

Built For Beginners

Powering the WR125R is a 125cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with an SOHC four-valve layout and Yamaha’s Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology. The motor produces 14.5PS and 11.3Nm (0.5PS and 0.2Nm less than the Yamaha R125, MT-125 and the XSR125). Yamaha says the focus is on smooth low- and mid-range performance to make it easy to ride in traffic as well as on trails. The claimed mileage of the Yamaha WR125R is 43.47kmpl. Pair this with the 8.1 litres fuel tank, and you will get a claimed range of over 320km.  

Under the bodywork, the WR125R uses a semi-double cradle frame and comes equipped with serious suspension hardware. It gets a 41mm KYB telescopic fork and a linked monoshock, both offering long wheel travel (215mm at the front and 187mm at the rear). The bike runs on a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheel setup, wrapped in knobby Dunlop DE605 tyres, staying true to its off-road intent. Disc brakes are standard at both ends, with ABS limited to the front wheel.

Modern Design And Features

Design-wise, the WR125R follows Yamaha’s sharp enduro styling, complete with LED lighting and a dual-headlight setup. The flat seat and wide footpegs are designed to aid rider movement off-road.  Though the seat height is pretty tall at 875mm, its slim profile may mean shorter riders will not have as much trouble getting on or off the bike. It weighs 138kg (kerb), which is a bit heavy for a 125cc bike.

On the tech front, it gets an LCD instrument console with smartphone connectivity via Yamaha’s MyRide app (only for calls/ SMS and battery level). There’s a gear position indicator, digital tachometer and fuel gauge as well. 

India Launch: Highly Unlikely

While the WR125R costs GBP 4,500 (approx Rs 5.05 lakh), its arrival in India is highly unlikely. That said, now that we already have the Yamaha XSR155, MT-15 apart from the Yamaha R15, we really, really hope Yamaha brings the WR155 to India real soon. The WR155 was even spotted here a few months ago.
