TVS Apache RTR 200 4V New Top Variant Explained
This new variant gets adjustable suspension (finally) and a much better navigation system
TVS recently launched a whole bunch of variants for the Apache bikes as well as the Ronin. Among these, the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V got a very meaningful update to the top variant. Interestingly, the top variant that was sold earlier, the one with the inverted fork and TFT console, is not the new base variant, and this one adds to it with a whole list of goodies. So yes, the one with the regular telescopic fork, as well as the one with the inverted fork and LCD console are no longer available.
Coming back to the new top variant, it costs Rs 1,49,990 (ex-showroom Delhi). Here’s all you need to know:
Design & Styling
As far as the styling is concerned, there are no changes except for new colours: Sepang Blue with Red alloy wheels, Armoury Green, Racing Red. The Matte Black continues to exist. There’s nothing to complain about the styling as such as it looks properly aggressive. If we were to nitpick, now both the Apache RTR 200 4V and the Apache RTR 160 4V look too similar. We’d have liked it if the RTR 200 looked a bit more special to show that this is the bigger, badder sibling.
Features
Yes, as the name suggests, the TFT on this bike gets Map Mirroring, which is a lot more intuitive than the turn-by-turn navigation. Additionally, it also gets a panic brake alert, and USB-C port. The rest of the feature set is shared with the base TFT vargviant and are: slip and assist clutch, adjustable brake and clutch levers, Bluetooth connectivity features, all-LED lighting, traction control, and GTT (Glide Through Technology, a low-rpm assist which allows the rider to move at low speeds with just the clutch input).
Engine & Performance
No changes here, and it isn’t necessary anyway. It continues with the super peppy and delightful-to-ride 197.75cc engine that punches out a healthy 20.82PS and 17.25Nm in Sport mode, and 17.32PS and 16.51Nm in Urban and Rain mode. Yes, these three riding modes alter the output figures as well as the ABS intervention for a more customisable riding experience. The motor also has enough grunt to cruise above 90kmph. The powerband is broad, so daily commuting as well as weekend riding is as exciting as it gets.
Safety & Hardware
Here’s where the magic happens: the bike finally gets adjustable suspension. Earlier, adjustable suspension was available only on the telescopic fork version and not the one with the inverted fork. But TVS has changed that now by offering a preload-adjustable inverted fork. This should pair well with the already-existing preload-adjustable rear monoshock, making handling even better.
Braking hardware remains the same: 270mm front and 240mm rear petal disc with dual-channel ABS and rear lift-off protection (prevents the rear wheel from lifting off while aggressively braking).
The tyres see no change either: 90-section front and 130-section rear tubeless tyres, with the rear being radial. TVS should’ve given a radial front as well on this variant, in our opinion.
