The Splendor Plus Xtec makes a strong case with its proven 97.2cc engine, known for reliability and excellent mileage. The inclusion of a Bluetooth-enabled digital console with call/SMS alerts, a USB mobile charger, and Hero’s vast service network adds significant value for daily commuters. The optional front disc brake is a noteworthy safety addition.
However, the engine's performance is modest by today's standards. It also misses out on an LED headlamp, which is available on the newer Xtec 2.0. Both variants come with a rear drum brake, and the overall styling remains conservative. The Hero Splendor Plus Xtec variant focuses on practical features for the daily rider. Its full-LCD instrument console displays speed, fuel level, trip meters, and a real-time mileage indicator - useful to keep a track on how efficient the bike is. The information is neatly laid out and is easily visible under harsh sunlight. Bluetooth connectivity provides only call and SMS alerts on the screen. Other useful additions include a USB mobile charger for on-the-go charging and Hero's i3S (Idle Stop-Start System) that saves fuel in city traffic by automatically shutting off the engine when idle.
Safety Features
There are only three main talking points when it comes to safety. The motorcycle gets a combined braking system which partially applies the front brake when the rider slams the rear in case of an emergency situation. It also gets a side-stand engine cut-off feature, and a bank angle sensor that shuts off the engine in case of a fall.
Engine And Performance
At the heart of the Splendor Plus Xtec is a 97.2cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This unit is tuned for mileage and reliability, producing 8.02PS of power at 8,000rpm and 8.05Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. The engine is paired with a 4-speed gearbox. With a kerb weight of around 112kg (Drum) and a 9.8-litre fuel tank, it is designed for city commuting, offering smooth low-end torque and an easy clutch operation for navigating heavy traffic. The performance is adequate for daily commutes, but don’t expect lots of power for quick overtakes. You’ll have to plan ahead given the small capacity engine.
Rivals
The Hero Splendor Plus Xtec goes up against the Honda Shine 100. While the Shine 100 is much lighter, the Splendor Plus Xtec offers more features, and slightly more power.
The TVS Radeon looks somewhat similar to the Splendor Plus Xtec, but comes with a bigger, peppier 110cc engine that makes more power and torque. The top-end Radeon variant (Digi Cluster Edition) is also slightly cheaper than even the top-end Disc variant of the Splendor Plus Xtec, while offering an equally info-packed LCD instrument console.
The Bajaj Platina 110 is not only much cheaper than the Splendor Plus Xtec, but also comes with a much larger 115.06cc engine producing more power and torque. It also has suspension and seat designed for maximum comfort, but the only aspect it falls behind the Splendor Plus is the lack of a front disc.
