Hero Splendor Plus Xtec: Variants Explained
The Hero Splendor Plus Xtec offers a choice between drum and disc brakes, with about Rs 3,000 premium separating two otherwise identically-equipped variants

The Hero Splendor is no longer the most basic commuter you can buy. It has now come up with the Splendor Plus Xtec variant. With the Splendor Plus Xtec variant, it is also a feature-loaded commuter. Both the Disc variant and Drum variants run on the same 97.2cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine with 8PS and 8.05Nm outputs, paired to a humble 4-speed gearbox. Crucially, Hero hasn't stripped any technology from the lower variant. Both get the fully digital speedometer with Bluetooth for call and SMS alerts, a real-time mileage indicator, a USB charging port, and i3S idle stop-start. They even look the same with identical colours and graphics. The Xtec lineup is split purely on brake hardware.
Splendor Plus Xtec Drum Brake

Honestly, the Hero Splendor Plus Xtec Drum variant at Rs 81,083 (ex-showroom Delhi) gives you almost everything the Xtec badge promises. Front and rear both run 130mm drum brakes, linked by Combined Braking System (CBS) for a safer experience. The connected console, side-stand engine cut-off, tubeless tyres on alloy wheels is all here. Kerb weight sits at 112kg. If you're looking for a mileage-focused commuter in a rural or semi-urban area who rarely exceeds city speeds, the Drum variant doesn't leave you short on features. It leaves you short on one thing only, front disc braking power.
Splendor Plus Xtec Disc Brake

The Disc variant is available at Rs 84,126 (ex-showroom, Delhi) which is a Rs 3,043 premium over the Drum variant. That entire premium goes to a single upgrade: a 240 mm front disc brake. The rear stays a 130 mm drum. The CBS is retained, however the kerb weight nudges up to 113.6 kg which is 1.6 kg more. That's it. The engine, suspension, tyres, and the full Bluetooth feature set are identical to the Drum variant. No extra cosmetic or tech additions. If you often ride at highway speeds, this is a must-have upgrade for you.
Which One Should You Buy?
The choice is refreshingly straightforward. Unlike motorcycles where higher variants have complicated feature upgrades, the Rs 3,043 premium here buys one thing, and a rather important one: better braking. A front disc delivers stronger stopping power, better heat dissipation, and more confidence during emergency braking. For riders who carry a pillion regularly, use highways, or tackle hilly terrain, that's a tangible safety improvement. I'd pick the Disc variant without much deliberation for anyone doing more than low-speed urban commuting.
