Yamaha recently launched EC-06, its first electric scooter in India, and it is designed with a clear focus on city use. Convenience Features

The Yamaha EC-06 is based on the River Indie and has been designed to keep things simple and functional for daily urban riders. It offers a 24.5-litre underseat storage compartment, which is enough to store daily essentials such as a backpack or a few groceries. However, it’s clear that the EC-06 isn’t meant to be a cargo-friendly scooter. Yamaha has deliberately traded outright storage capacity for a sleeker and more compact silhouette, which should appeal to riders who value design over utility.

The scooter gets a colour LCD instrument console with a clean and modern interface. It displays essential information like speed, battery status, range and ride data, while remaining easy to read in varying lighting conditions. 

Connectivity duties are handled by the ‘Yamaha Motor Connect R’ app, which allows riders to pair their smartphone with the scooter. Through the app, users can access ride statistics, vehicle status updates and key alerts. That said, it misses out on a TFT instrument console and turn-by-turn navigation, which the Ather Rizta, while being way more affordable, still gets. 

The scooter features full-LED lighting, including the dual, vertically stacked headlights, horizontal taillight and indicators. 

Safety Features

On the safety front, the Yamaha EC-06 is equipped with CBS (Combined Braking System) as standard, ensuring balanced braking during city rides. It also rides on alloy wheels with tubeless tyres, which are far more practical for urban usage and make puncture repairs less of a hassle. That said, at a price tag of Rs 1,67,600 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the EC-06 was expected to at least come with single-channel ABS to further enhance its safety quotient. 

Overall, the Yamaha EC-06 positions itself as a stylish, city-focused electric scooter that puts design, convenience and connectivity first. While it does miss out on a few expected features like navigation, single-channel ABS and a more modern TFT instrument console, it is still an appealing electric scooter targeted to urban commuters looking for a premium electric alternative from Yamaha.
