BSVI-compliant Aprilia SR 125 Spied Testing In India

It will be the first scooter in India to comply with the upcoming emission norms

BSVI emission norms will be implemented from 1 April 2020. The current Aprilia SR 125 is priced at Rs 72,767 (ex-showroom Delhi). Expect a price hike of around Rs 8,000 over the current model. The scooter was updated with CBS (Combined Braking System) quite recently.

The BSVI-compliant Aprilia SR 125 has been spotted testing in India for the first time recently. A dead giveaway is the BSVI sticker on the front panel. The update comes in the light of the upcoming BSVI emission norms which will come into effect from 1 April 2020. This makes it the first BSVI-compliant scooter in India. The updated scooter is likely to carry a premium of around Rs 8,000 over the current version which is priced at Rs 72,767 (ex-showroom Delhi). The visor, as shown in the picture, could be offered as an optional extra. 

Coming to the price hike, it could be attributed to the fact that like most two-wheeler manufacturers, Aprilia too could also use fuel-injection systems which help produce lower tailpipe emissions. And given the complexity of the system, it’s a wee bit on the expensive side.

Aside from the above-mentioned updates, the scooter is expected to remain unchanged. At present, it’s powered by a 124.49cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor that makes 9.6PS at 7250rpm and a peak torque of 9.9Nm at 6,250rpm. Its suspension setup comprises of telescopic forks and a monoshock at the rear. In terms of braking, the Aprilia SR 125 features a 220mm front disc brake and a 140mm rear drum unit. The scooter was recently updated with CBS (Combined Braking System) to adhere to the mandatory government safety regulations effective from 1 April 2019. 

The Aprilia SR 125 competes against the Suzuki Access 125, TVS NTorq 125, Honda Grazia 125 and the Vespa 125.
