The updated bike will feature fuel injection and alloy wheels

  • Misses out on digital instrumentation and LED lighting.
  • Expect a price hike of around Rs 12,000 to Rs 14,000.
  • Multiple new models could follow later this year.

The new year has started off with a bang -- a BS6-compliant version of the Royal Enfield Classic 350 has started arriving at dealerships. We’ve spotted Royal Enfield testing an updated Classic on multiple occasions with features like semi-digital instrumentation and LED DRLs. The bikes in these images, however, are not the ones we’ve seen RE testing in the past. These are mildly updated versions of the current-gen Classic 350.

The updates mostly concern the powertrain, which has now received fuel injection and an additional catalytic converter. A metal plate where the carburettor should be and an oxygen sensor on the exhaust header confirm this, while the catalytic converter is, of course, in plain sight. The only other change comes in the form of alloy wheels, as opposed to wire-spoke units on the current iteration.

But Royal Enfield allows you to configure your bike with alloy wheels on its online configurator, and these customised BS4 motorcycles have recently started arriving at dealerships as well. For Royal Enfield to introduce this interim update before the next-gen Classic is a little surprising and also indicates it is perhaps struggling to get the new Classic 350 ready on-time.

However, another possibility is that the brand could be introducing some entirely new models that will be sold alongside the Classic. It recently trademarked the names ‘Hunter’ and ‘Sherpa’, and perhaps what we believe to be the ‘next-gen Classic’ might actually be one of these. Only time will tell. For now, we expect an official launch of this BS6 Classic 350 soon, followed by the launch of the more hi-tech bike sometime later this year. Taking into account the addition of fuel injection and alloy wheels, expect a price hike in the range of Rs 12,000 to Rs 14,000.
