Just days after unveiling the updated Z900, Kawasaki has now brought the new Z650 to our shores. Usually, Kawasaki throws in a new paint scheme and calls it an update, but not this time. The Z650, just like the Z900, has received several noteworthy updates over its predecessor. Here’s all that is new in five points:
A new look… kind of:
Apart from the new headlamp cowl and the new LED light, Kawasaki has retained the design language of the older model. Interestingly, most of the motorcycles in Kawasaki’s 2019 lineup have received a similar Sugomi-styled front-end as the Z650. And oh, there’s a new paint option as well.
Updated features:
Gone is the archaic semi-digital instrument cluster. The new Z650 comes with a vibrant 4.5-inch colour TFT display. Apart from showing usual rider-centric information, the TFT display can also be connected to a smartphone via Kawasaki’s Rideology app to see call alerts, vehicle statistics, riding log and more.
BS6-compliant engine:
The 649cc parallel-twin motor in the Z650 is now BS6 compliant and pumps out the same power as before, at 68PS. However, the torque is now down from 65.7Nm at 6500rpm to 64Nm at 6700rpm. The 6-speed transmission is the same unit as the previous-gen model. We will have to wait and see whether the new Z650 will have similar performance figures or not as it has gained 3kgs, at 187kg (kerb).
Same cycle parts:
The frame, suspension and the braking hardware are identical to its predecessor. The only change between the two variants is the tyres. The Sportmax D214s, seen on the older model, are replaced by Sportmax Roadsport 2 tyres, which the manufacturer claims are grippier than before.
India pricing:
Kawasaki India hasn’t announced the final price as yet, but it has said that the 650cc naked will be priced between Rs 6.25 lakh and Rs 6.50 lakh, which is around Rs 56,000 more than the BS4 variant.

I am a huge fan of riding, and this bike delivers what almost every rider want , an aggressive approach and smooth handling. Just loved it , however, cost of maintenance and other stuff can get quiet expensive . If you are looking for an weekend kinda bike , then I'll recommend it but not for city (especially crowded cities like mumbai) where u hardly get good patch with low traffic , plus u will encounter speed breakers at the least expected place , so for everyday it's a NO.
