Overview
Kawasaki has launched the new Z650 in India. The Z650 replaces the Kawasaki ER-6n. The ER-6n was an exceptionally practical bike but missed out on sales owing to its looks. The Z650 has sharper lines and a lithe frame which make it look sporty. The new Z650 now comes with a trellis frame that should improve dynamics and helps reduce weight. The Z650 weighs 19kg less than the ER-6n. Seat height is a lower 790mm.
The Z650 gets a 648cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin that delivers 68PS, a drop of 4PS from the ER-6n owing to Euro IV emissions. The massive weight loss should more than compensate for the power drop and we expect the bike to perform better than its predecessor. The Z650 gets a slipper clutch. It gets twin disc brakes at the front and a single disc at the back. ABS is standard.
The Z650 has priced at Rs 5.19 lakh (ex-Delhi). The Kawasaki Z650 will compete against the Benelli TNT600i.

Kawasaki Z650 (2017-2020) Latest Updates
Kawasaki has unveiled the 2020 Z650 in India. Kawasaki says it's likely to be priced between Rs 6. 25 lakh to Rs 6. 50 lakh (ex-showroom). That's a price hike of around Rs 56,000 or Rs 81,000 over the current BS4 model, which retails at Rs 5. 69 lakh (ex-showroom). For 2020, the bike features a new LED headlamp and a 4. 3-inch TFT instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity. It’s available in a single shade of Metallic Spark Black.
Powering the mid-displacement streetfighter is a BS6-compliant 649cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine that makes the same 68PS at 8000rpm but loses out on torque i. e 64Nm at 6700rpm as opposed to 65. 7Nm at 6500rpm on the 2019 model. The engine retains the 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch.
In terms of underpinnings, the bike uses a steel trellis frame with an upside fork and a monoshock. Its braking setup consists of twin 300 petal discs up front and a single 200mm petal disc at the rear. Its 17-inch wheels come wrapped in Dunlop Sportsmax Roadsport 2 tyres. Interestingly, the 2020 model is 3kg lighter (187kg) than its predecessor, which tipped the scale at 190kg kerb.
