BS6-compliant KTM 200 Duke In The Works

Next-gen 200 Duke might receive an upswept exhaust like the 250 Duke and the 390 Duke

It is unlikely that BS6 norms would be met with an underbelly exhaust. No changes expected in the bike’s styling. Price might go up by Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000.

Much like Bajaj, KTM is also planning to update its existing range to offer BS6-compliant products from 2020 onwards. The oldest motorcycle amongst the lot is the 200 Duke. While the switch from BS3 to BS4 was not a big transition for the Austrian brand, scaling up to BS6 would be a big task. And this could result in a major change in the bike’s exhaust layout.

In order to make the 200 Duke BS6-compliant, it is unlikely that KTM will change the cubic capacity of the 199.5cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled mill. Whether performance figures will take a hit or not is still up for debate but we definitely believe that the 200 Duke will get an upswept exhaust like the 250 Duke and the 390 Duke. This layout allows for a larger cat-con unit, which should decrease emissions by a significant margin. 

The change in exhaust layout might force KTM to redesign the pillion foot-rest hangers. However, it is unlikely that we will see the entire design language changed to match the 250 Duke as it would drive up costs by a huge margin.

Currently, the 200 Duke is priced at Rs 1.62 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The BS6 update will bump up the price of the bike by at least Rs 12,000. Get more details on BS6 products in our video here.
