Comes as a pleasant surprise, but it's still expensive for what it offers

BREAKING: Keeway SR125 Launched

After we spotted it at a dealership last week, the SR125, the 125cc retro motorcycle that was in the pipeline for India, has been launched by Keeway. Let’s address the elephant in the room; its price. At Rs 1,19,000 (ex-showroom India), it’s nearly half of what we expected. Keeway has priced it fairly competitively for a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) product, but it’s still expensive for what it offers at the end of the day.

The retro-scrambler theme of the SR125 looks quite appealing and kind of reminds us of a modified Yamaha RX100. The circular headlight, taillights and turn indicators and single-piece ribbed seat scream retro, while the block-pattern tyres accentuate the scrambler look.

Underneath it is a 125cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected mill that makes 9.83PS and 8.2Nm. While those numbers might not sound very impressive, its 120kg weight should make this a fun commuter. For perspective, the TVS Raider makes 11.38PS and 11.2Nm.

While it gets a 300mm disc brake up front and 210mm one at the rear, it misses out on ABS and gets a combi-braking system instead. The suspension setup looks run-of-the-mill with a telescopic fork and dual shock absorbers, with the latter having five steps of preload adjustability. The wheels are 17-inch units shod with block-pattern tyres.

Keeway SR125 Instrument Cluster

Other practical bits include a solid 160mm ground clearance, decent 14.5-litre fuel tank and a side stand-engine-cut-off feature. It gets an LED DRL, halogen indicators and a digital instrument cluster.

The SR125 is available in three colours–Glossy Red, Glossy Black and Glossy White. At Rs 1,19,000 (ex-showroom India), the bike is premium, while offering performance equivalent to the Bajaj Pulsar NS125, TVS Raider and Honda SP 125. The test rides have commenced at Benelli/Keeway dealerships, and you can book the bike for Rs 1,000 on their official website or at dealerships.
