BMW Motorrad India will also launch the G 310 GS adventure tourer along with the naked roadster

It’s been quite a while since the BMW Motorrad unveiled the G 310 R. First showcased at the 2015 EICMA Motor Show, the entry-level naked roadster is all set to hit Indian roads soon. According to our sources, BMW Motorrad India is likely to launch the G 310 R in the coming days. And that’s not all, BMW will also launch the G 310 GS adventure tourer along with the G 310 R.
Sources close to the brand also revealed that the bikes will be manufactured in Chennai, which means they could carry a competitive price tag. The G 310 R is expected to be launched at approximately Rs 3 lakh while the G 310 GS is likely to be priced at nearly Rs 3.5 lakh. Interestingly, the TVS Apache RR310 that shares its engine and underpinnings with the BMW costs Rs 1 lakh lesser than the G 310 R. Hence, it looks like BMW wants to position the G 310 R as a premium offering in the Indian two-wheeler market.

Designed as a naked streetfighter, the BMW G 310 R looks a lot similar to its elder sibling, the BMW S 1000 R. The wide handlebars and centre-set footpegs makes for a relaxed riding posture. At first glance, the G 310 R doesn’t look very aggressive. However, it has its own appeal that should help it draw a lot attention on the road.
The G 310 GS, on the other hand, is an adventure bike that features a long travel suspension and 19-inch wheels. The bike's design is based on other higher-displacement GS motorcycles and features a triangular-shaped headlamp, a beak-shaped front fender, a muscular fuel tank and radiator shrouds.
In terms of mechanicals, both motorcycles are powered by a 313cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that is capable of generating 35PS of maximum power and 28Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
There’s no doubt the Munich-based two-wheeler maker has its own brand value. It is known worldwide for producing top-notch products. However, we think that the expected prices of the bikes are a tad too high, especially when we look at the competition, which includes offerings from KTM, TVS and Bajaj. That said, there is still a section of bike lovers who wouldn't mind shelling out extra bucks to own a motorcycle with the propeller badge.
