The recently unveiled electric scooter will be available in three variants. Here’s what they’re all about

[UPDATE: The BGauss B8 and BGauss A2 electric scooters have been launched in India. Check out our report for the price list and other details.]

Homegrown Indian brand BGauss is the daughter company of RR Global, a Mumbai-based conglomerate that caters to the electrical industry. BGauss kicked off its business with the unveiling of the B8 and A2 electric scooters in the country. The BGauss B8 is the more premium offering, packed with better performance than the A2. The scooter will be available in three variants: Lead Acid, Lithium Ion and LI Technology. All three variants will be launched in early August 2020. Here’s what they’re all about:

Expected pricing & warranty details:

The top-end variant is expected to cost around Rs 90,000. It makes sense considering it not only packs a lithium-ion battery but also gets smart features like IOT-enabled navigation assist, among others. We shall discuss more about the features in the forthcoming paragraphs. Expect the base lead-acid powered variant to be priced around Rs 65,000 whereas the lithium-ion battery-powered version is likely to cost between Rs 75,000 and Rs 80,000, all prices ex-showroom.

The base lead acid battery-powered variant gets a one year warranty on the battery whereas the other two lithium-ion battery-powered variants come with a three-year warranty on the battery. All variants get a standard three-year warranty on the motor and the vehicle.

Powertrain & battery specifications:

All three variants of the B8 share the same Bosch 1900W Brushless DC (BLDC) hub motor at the rear. This motor helps the B8 propel to a top speed of 50kmph. This detailed table regarding the battery specifications, charging times and range should help clear things out:

The lithium-ion battery variant seems to be pretty promising as its charging time isn’t all that long. With a range of 70km per charge, most riders should be able to make the commute to their work and back every day on a single charge. Moreover, the lithium-ion battery pack is removable, so you can conveniently take the battery out and charge it at home or at the office.

Features:

The top-of-the-line BGauss B8 LI Technology variant gets Internet Of Things (IOT) connectivity with navigation assist, ride metrics, remote diagnostics, battery’s state of health and its state of charge, live tracking, geo fencing, and full charge alert.

All the variants get an IP65-rated water resistant fully digital LED instrument cluster, mobile app compatibility, centralised seat lock, keyless start, anti-theft alarm, anti-theft motor locking, USB charging port, and side stand sensor. More importantly, all three variants come with three riding modes: Low, Mid and High. The three scooters also get an all-LED lighting system with LED DRLs as standard.

Design and Underpinnings:

The BGauss B8 looks a bit boxy but the minimalistic lines on the body panels give it a sleek and futuristic look. The horizontal Y-shaped slits on the sides make the side profile a lot more interesting. The tail lamp is eerily similar to the one seen on the Honda Activa. Visually, all the three variants look pretty much the same.

Even the underpinnings are common among all the versions. The front end gets a telescopic fork whereas the rear comes with a pair of shock absorbers. The alloy wheels are shod with Ceat Zoom tyres on both ends and the scooter comes to a halt using a double piston front disc and a single-piston disc at the rear, with CBS and regenerative braking as standard.
